CROWSNEST PASS GOLF club

World-class golfi ng in the Crowsnest Pass

MEDICINE HAT NEWS

First came the revamp, modernizing and upgrading the Crowsnest Pass Golf Club into a can’t-miss track in Alberta’s southwest.

Now, as it celebrates its centennial birthday, the Blairmore course gets to add a jewel to its new crown – and what a jewel it is.

A 16,400-square foot clubhouse will greet golfers this season, the fi nal piece in a renovation that’s been worth the wait.

“It’s 10,000 square feet on the bottom, the main fl oor space is 6,400,” said club pro Jason Roth, noting that construction is just about fi nished. “The main level is the pro shop, the restaurant and a big wrap-around patio. It’s awesome, the views on there are just amazing.

“The patio’s going to be the place to be.”

With all but two holes modifi ed – and most of them completely rebuilt – last year by Calgary-based course architect Gary Browning, Crowsnest really is

a new course. The mountains are still there but the new layout takes even more advantage of them, highlighted by an elevated tee on the par-4 13th hole.

“It’s totally diff erent,” said Roth. “Only holes eight and 17 on the new course didn’t change. Every other hole has been changed, and even those ones got new irrigation.”

Stretching out to 6,659 yards from the furthest tees – there are four sets of tees going as short as 3,976 – you’ll be challenged but also rewarded by the tree-lined fairways and vast elevation changes.

In that spirit, the new clubhouse itself also focuses on the scenery, a giant wrap-around deck plus indoor seating making the 19th hole as enticing as the fi rst 18.

“At our old clubhouse we were limited to 100, you could maybe squeeze in 110 people,” said Roth. “We can host up to 144 which is a full shotgun (tournament).”

While there’s no sure thing in any business due to the global pandemic this year, Roth sees a bright long-term future at Crowsnest thanks to all the work that’s been put in. To that end he’s also managed to reduce weekend rates, with a green fee, cart and range balls all included in a $94 price tag. That would’ve cost $100 in 2019.

A full course opening is planned for late May. Your best bet is to check with the club’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/golfthecrow) or its website, crowsnestpassgolf.com before you visit.

When you do, expect a world-class experience.
