A new CAPS-aligned graded reading scheme
Aweh! is an exciting new graded reading scheme built around the South African child and curriculum.
Levels developed against the APS curriculum Topics match the order of the Life Skills curriculum South African-based, curriculum-aligned vocabulary lists Integration of Life Skills topics and athematics concepts Includes twelve different genres Local contexts
The Levels
Each grade consists of four levels with 20 fi ction stories, 13 non- fi ction texts and faction stories linked to the Life Skills topics for that grade. Embedded in each eader is that week’s athematics concept to allow for the concepts to be taught within a context.

The genre of humour is used to create learner engagement.
The Mathematics concept of “Number names and symbols” is shown in the artwork.
The focus phonic ‘g’ is embedded in both the text and the artwork.
The Life Skills topic of “Looking after your community” is integrated into the plot of the story, allowing learners to learn vocabulary within a known context and to relate the topic to everyday life.

Teaching The Teaching otes include information on
how children learn how to read the different genres and how to teach them how to assess reading how to develop vocabulary, comprehension skills and fl uency.
Writing
At the end of every Aweh! eader, a writing activity encourages the learner to engage with what they have read. The writing activity guides the learner to make meaning of what they have read and to communicate this meaning.
There are two Photocopiable Worksheets for each eader. A Photocopiable Worksheets book is also available.
