SJIB support for title protection

T e SJIB also added its voice to the regulation consultation, saying that protection of title would “signifi cantly enhance consumer, client and public protection and safety while deterring unqualifi ed individuals”. Commenting in its own detailed

response, Fiona Harper, T e Secretary of the SJIB, said: “T e promotion and utilisation of registered electrical contractors with industry-recognised qualifi cations would address the scale of poorly installed, defective and unsafe electrical work. “T e SJIB already administers the

ECS [Electrotechnical Certifi cation Scheme] which accommodates and recognises the diverse array of electricians operating within the electrotechnical industry. “With some additional safeguards,

and safety-critical occupation, this situation should be rectifi ed and the title of electrician should be protected.”

aff ects each and every one of us, and seeing so many Members putting their names forward will help us continue the battle to protect our industry.

“I would like to personally thank everyone who took the time to make

their views heard and add to the groundswell of support that is growing for this vital issue.” The consultation was set up by
