Port of San Diego


Owned by the Port of San Diego, and operated by HYPERLINK “https://www.pashagroup. com/capabilities/automotive” Pasha Automotive Services, the National City Marine Terminal serves as the primary port of entry for one out of every 10 new foreign cars shipped to the United States. Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Izuzu, Toyota Tacoma, Lotus, Lamborghini, Bentley, Ford, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo are all processed through the National City Marine Terminal (NCMT) by Pasha. “Our auto imports sector has been greatly affected by the pandemic. We are seeing some recovery since the onset of the pandemic, but the volumes are still down. We anticipate a drop of between 24 and 28%,” reports Greg Borossay, Principal, Maritime Business Development, Port of San Diego. “We know that there is still some backlog with the 2020 models, and we expect the auto manufacturers to price them to move. Demand has come back, but it’s a little too early to tell.” The port processes about


450,000 automobiles a year, and while there is a slow recovery in place, there was a reduction of 168,000 imported autos and a loss of nearly $2 million in revenue for FY 20. For FY 21, the port is forecasting a loss of 125,000 imported autos and a revenue reduction of $3.2 million. “What we are seeing is more

with its customers to provide as much first point of rest/last point of rest as possible for their growing business. “We are also exploring an auto parking structure build out that could accommodate up to 7,500 vehicles and potentially double the auto capacity at the port.”
