Traditional large-size display solutions still have many lim- itations. LCD video walls have many LCD panels that are dif- ficult to install, calibrate, and maintain. The panels are heavy with thick bezels, which can result in problematic image grids. Also, the size of a single

PMA reports improvements in flat panel sales vision

PMA Research (PMA) has pub- lished their latest sell-through tracking report on large-format (32-inch and larger) flat panel displays being sold by leading U.S. distributors who typically serve commercial markets. As the pandemic marches into month number six, over- all sales of large-format LCD, OLED and dvLED displays through the U.S. distribution channel were better in August than July, and much stronger than they were during the sec- ond quarter.

While the sales

performance was inconsistent among Distributors who par- ticipate in the PMA Research Tracking

program, and most

participants reported August sales short of last year, there were a few bright spots to note. Year-to-date consumer tele-

monitoring Datapath, has strengthened its market offering by integrating with Genetec’s software portfo- lio. Genetec is a global leader in security software and cloud- based services. With its head- quarters in Montreal, Canada, it has employees in five offices worldwide. Their flagship prod- uct, Genetec Security Centre, is a unified IP-video surveillance, access control and ALPR sys- tem. To provide customers with a comprehensive solution, Dat- apath has fully integrated its renowned WallControl 10 man- agement software into Genetec Security Centre to provide inte- grated video wall control. Genetec’s Security Centre has the power to manage access control, video surveillance, and automatic license plate recog-

sales volumes through distribution have been running ahead of 2019, and August continued that trend with a low double-digit gain over August 2019. Consumer entertain- ment buying has been elevated throughout the third quarter as some summer spending usu- ally earmarked for travel and live entertainment has been instead used for in-home enter- tainment upgrades. Unit

sales for commercial

televisions also showed a mod- est uptick in August over July’s strong performance. This type of TV, which can serve as both a rigorous-use television and a display used for content shar- ing, has been popular in the education market, particularly higher ed. These commercial TV’s are often rated for 16/7

usage, have some education and business friendly features and a longer warranty than a consumer TV. At less than half the price of true commercial 75" displays, these profession- al TVs are grabbing volume share but not significantly in- creasing revenues. PMA Research

also noted

that the 75-inch size segment nearly doubled in volume over August 2019, boosted mostly by the brisk sales of Samsung's 75" Pro TV and partly by the in- creased sales of 75" interactive displays.

Finally, August saw

an additional $2M in revenues for Direct-View LED video walls sold by Distributors. And year- to-date

revenues jumped to

$13M, which is more than dou- ble the August 2019 year-to- date revenues for the channel.

Datapath to integrate with Genetec security

nition to communications, in- trusion detection, and analytics – all through unified command and control, and connectivity to the cloud. Available for Q4 applications, Datapath’s vid- eo wall controllers can now be managed directly from within the interface of Genetec Se- curity Centre thanks to the new integration. This allows operators to easily control the video wall system directly from their everyday security appli- cation, removing the need to learn a new software package and allowing operators to focus distraction-free on their core objectives. Changing feeds and display content can now be performed from a single inter- face, rather than switching ap- plications.

Matthew Tibbitt, Datapath Product Manager, said: “Dat- apath systems and technology have been deployed into 1000s of control rooms and security suites across the world.

The

ability to deliver content to large scale video walls is crit- ical to functional teams that need to combine information to see the bigger picture and respond to it. By combining WallControl 10 with Security Centre, we have managed to make life much easier for both Genetec users and administra- tors. Users do not need to be trained on a new and unfamil- iar application, and they are able to do their work and inter- act with the video wall from a single application.”

Ground-breaking in-game revenue maker

PlayerLands, the smart, secure e-commerce platform for the games industry has announced the launch of the official Play- erLands website and the be- ginning of a revolution in PC game monetisation.

Founded by Nick Gillett and Alex Booth, PlayerLands em- powers PC game server owners (essentially creators of ‘private worlds’ within pre-existing games such as Minecraft, Rust etc.) to monetise their cre- ations by selling in-game items to fans and followers. With an easy-to-install plug-in, Play- erLands gives server owners a suite of simple, intuitive tools to sell in-game items, and ac- cept monthly subscriptions or donations from gamers who wish to access their content. First announced in 2019, and with £200,000 in VC funding from Mercia Technologies, PlayerLands is accessible to everyone from hobbyists through to global game serv- ers where tens-of-thousands of concurrent players are online at any one time, and where revenue tops $millions annual- ly. Once installed, PlayerLands does all the leg work, freeing server-owners up to focus on

their games and creating new content to sell to fans. Stores are

pre-integrated with

the

world’s leading payment part- ners, so server owners can have them up and running and tak- ing money in a matter of min- utes.

Nick Gillett, Co-Founder of PlayerLands said, “We aim to turn hobbies into small busi- nesses, and existing business- es into real revenue generators. Gamers with the wherewithal to create fantastic in-game con- tent to sell to their fans should be helped to share it. There will be many who will financially

benefit from having their hard work rewarded, and Player- Lands does that with minimal fuss. Server owners should not be limited by store-front man- agement, payments and inven- tories, but only by the breadth of their imaginations. We’re thrilled to help server owners achieve that.”
