COP ING WITH COVID EVERY MIND MAT TERS
At Air Aesthetics, we are mindful that Coronavirus has brought loss and change into all of our lives and looking after your mental wellbeing is critical to helping you cope with its challenges.
At Air Aesthetics, we work alongside Ruth Anne Adams who is a leading therapist and specialises in mental health concerns such as stress management, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. She is committed to giving her clients tools and techniques, so they are able to learn how to support their own mental health and develop successful coping strategies that are individual to their needs.
“Coping with uncertainty in our lives can be very unsettling,” says Ruth. “For many of us, the gradual easing of lockdown brings longed-for opportunities (even if at a social distance) – to see friends, play sports, resume contact with family in ‘real space’ or get back to work that we value.

But for many of us, after so long in isolation, the end of lockdown might be as hard as the start was. The thought of going back to the office or the pressure of returning to struggling businesses and reducing our down time or self-care time can feel incredibly scary. Many of us are unsure how to achieve the right life balance and that leads to the big questions such as ‘What do I want in my life now?’ It might not be the same answer as it was pre-COVID. All these thoughts and emotions can build up, so its really vital to talk them out with someone and make a clear plan for your wellbeing which is going to help you to re-emerge confidently.”

RUTH’S TOP TIPS FOR SURVIVING POST-LOCKDOWN •
Look after yourself
Self-care in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak includes focusing on things you can control instead of those you cannot (stopping the virus). So, try activities you love, whether its yoga, running, weight lifting or dancing! Keeping active will help to balance the adrenaline levels in the body and create those feel-good endorphins!
• Review your diet
Also, your diet might have been good, bad or totally off track in lock down, so just start thinking about how you can make sure your body is being looked after, too.
• Meditation and mindfulness These are powerful self-care tools which can be used daily to help calm the mind and body. Be kind to yourself as much as possible now, and reap all the benefits that brings in the future.
• Get scheduling Stress is often caused because we feel overwhelmed. So, get a schedule going which balances work, rest and play, including work, time for self-care, time to meditate, etc.
• Create a morning routine The morning is a really important time to start your mind and body working in a positive way for you. Just 10 minutes meditation in the morning and 15 minutes exercising, makes a huge impact on your wellbeing and resilience for the rest of the day.
•
It’s OK not to be OK Our minds are programmed to be fearful of danger. It’s OK to have a voice about it, to join conversations about how you and many others are feeling and recognise that you are not alone.
• Find a positive focus
Try and focus on things that are positive in your life. Find something, no matter how small to look forward to. Get a diary and write down the thoughts that make you feel good. If you can write even one, it’s a catalyst to finding more thoughts that create the ‘good feeling’ in your body.
• Ask for professional support Qualified health professionals such as Ruth Anne Adams can offer proactive measures and expert advice to help manage your mental health during these times of uncertainty and help you re-emerge stronger, balanced and with confidence.
