UNI-CAST: A World Leader in Aluminum Investment Castings


U


ni-Cast origins date back to 1968 when Don McKitterick started a small foundry in Derry NH.


Eventually outgrowing the facility, Don moved the operations to Nashua NH and with the support of a few additional investors,


they purchased what was


previously the Nashua Brass Company. Focus was spent on developing the ability to manufacture large complex investment castings.


In 1979, in an


attempt to grow the business and become better suited for large castings, Uni-Cast expanded its operations to the current location in Londonderry NH. This new location gave Uni-Cast the opportunity to grow in both size and


capability. They 18 ❘ August 2020 ® encountered


a lot of success in the market place with many defense contractors and aerospace manufacturers.


After a few


years of manufacturing at both locations the Nashua operation was phased out. Unfortunately the technology to produce large castings was not fully developed and Uni-Cast ended up going bankrupt in 1985. In that same year Uni-Cast was purchased by Sturm Ruger to support the manufacturing of their various aluminum gun frames and components. In addition, Ruger supported commercial markets such as medical, industrial and machinery with lower spec and generally higher volume orders. Ultimately the company was unprofitable for Sturm Ruger and in June


2000 it was sold to the current owner, Henri Fine.


At the time of purchase, Ruger employed 70 people with annual REGULAR MEMBER
