downsmail.co.uk Website is relaunched

THURNHAM Parish Council has relaunched its website with special features to help residents learn what is going on in their area.

One key element of the new

Meetings normally held on the third Monday of each month at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel. Public welcome.

CHAIRMAN: Daniel Skinner CLERK: Sherrie Babington 01634 867173

Bin installed

THE waste bin ordered for the bus stop at the top of Caring Lane was installed and although there is less litter in that area, some peo- ple are still too lazy to walk a few yards to use it.

Signs renewed

THE 30mph signs on the surface of Caring Lane have recently been repainted.

site, designed by Hugo Fox Ltd, is a portal, called Planning Tracker, through which users can access planning applications. It also has contact details for members and the clerk, Sherrie

Babbington, the parish council’s policies and all the details of up- coming meetings and their agen- das. With the huge expansion in housing numbers across the bor- ough, the parish council feels it is an important way for local people to keep in touch with proposed developments. Like many parish councils in Kent, most of the recent meetings

Homes plan opposed

THE parish council has sent a statement of objection in re- sponse to a planning applica- tion for two new houses. The parish feels that the planned development of two detached homes on land east of Chapel Lane, near Bearsted Golf Club, is "inappropriate" in the countryside, and could set a a dangerous precedent for the area. In a letter of objection, the council's clerk states: “The de-

velopment is sited on a danger- ous blind exit onto Ware Street between the bridge and the only natural crossing point.” The council argues Chapel

Lane could be blocked while the four and five bedroom homes are built. The application has been submitted by Donald and Jane McGregor. The borough council will de- termine the outcome of the proposal later in the year.

have been held online via Zoom. Deputy chairman Richard

Smith said: “The parish council welcomes feedback from resi- dents and now that, in particular, local planning applications are ac- cessible on the site, it is easier to keep informed about what is going on and to express your view.” The new website can be reached at www.thurnham.org.uk.

Hall closure

THE Memorial Hall has been closed to the public during the Covid-19 pandemic, other than for use by the children of key workers attending classes. It will be bound by government guidelines when it reopens.

Speed limit

THE council accepted a request from the Bearsted and Thurnham Society to support speed limits on the Ashford Road from Caring Lane to the 30mph zone where the A20 enters Bearsted.
