letter from publisher The Rise of ‘Conspirituality’

T ese are trying times, for sure. Chaos rules, important information changes from one moment to the next and what we read may seem hard to believe or understand. T is may cause some of us to accept opinions for what is happening from dubious sources or those who have a worldview that explains the chaotic and heartbreaking one that we are struggling to understand. We can see this happening in the growing “conspirituality” movement where people who are into holistic health and wellness and other alternative modalities are adopting theories

most of us would consider to be conspiratorial. One of the best perspectives I’ve read on the subject is by Stephen Hinan, CEO of

T e Shiſt Network, whom we interviewed last month in Natural Awakenings. In his essay on Medium.com, Hinan posits that when people adopt a known conspiracy theory, it serves and supports them in ways that perhaps their family, friends or society have failed them. Where someone may have been marginalized by their family for pursuing an alternative career, they may fi nd comfort in being the person who is “in the know” who could save the world if only everyone would listen to them. T e irony is they are searching for something that exists inside themselves—acceptance. Natural Awakenings is and always has been a magazine that shares evidence-based

information on health and wellness. But we also explore those things which we cannot see or explain. T is month, in “How Awe Can Transform Our Lives,” Jonah Paquette explores how allowing ourselves to seek out and feel awe in our surroundings can transform our lives. And in “Mindful Walking—Meditative Steps for Well Being,” Marlaina Donato looks at how meditative walking can reduce stress, improve mood and maybe even inspire that awe we need so much to connect with ourselves and something bigger, instead of relying on someone else to tell us what to believe and feel.

Stay well, dear readers.
