A Second Model The Ambulatory Surgical Center of Ste- vens Point in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, is taking a different approach to price transparency, says Becky Ziegler-Otis, the ASC’s administrator. Since January 2014, the surgery center has provided patients with their expected out-of- pocket expenses based upon their spe- cific insurance negotiated rate. When a patient is scheduled, insur-
ance information is sent to the ASC’s insurance coordinator. This individual verifies the insurance and determines the patient’s deductible and whether the patient has coinsurance.
