MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Register Now for ASCA’s Three Winter Seminars

S

tart your New Year right by participating in one of three new seminars that ASCA is offering in San Antonio, Texas, this January. Developed to address critical operational areas in your facility that ASC managers and staff routinely tell us keep them up at night, these three programs will give you the essential information you need to make sure that your ASC is in compliance, on solid financial ground and on track for future success. All three seminars will take place January 12–14, 2017, so if you sign up for one and see a session of interest in another, you can attend that session. You can also sign up multiple members of your team for the different programs to make sure that your ASC has access to all of the content. The programs ASCA is offering are ■

Minimizing Your Regulatory/Legal Risk Seminar (recommended for administrators, clinical managers and clinical staff);

Coding Update and Reimbursement Strategies Seminar (a program built on the pop- ular Winter Coding Seminar that ASCA has offered in the past and recommended for coders, billers and business office managers); and

Finance and Accounting for Administrators (recommended for administrators, busi- ness office managers and anyone preparing for one of these positions or to take the Certified Administrator Surgery Center [CASC] exam). On the first day of the seminars, all attendees will have an opportunity to participate in three sessions that address management concerns common to all ASC professionals: “Human Resources Issues in the ASC,” presented by HR legal expert John Park, JD, of Waller; “HIPAA in Plain English,” presented by state and federal compliance authority Angela Burnette, JD, of Alston & Bird LLP; and “Violence in the ASC Setting: A Case Study Based on Experience,” presented by patient safety and risk management special- ist Beth Chrismer, RN, of Good Shepherd Ambulatory Surgical Center. On Day Two, depending on your interests, you can attend sessions focused on

avoiding claims denials, preventing billing fraud and abuse, complying with the new hazardous waste management regulations, safe medication management, managing your balance sheet, conducting a breakeven analysis and much more. On Day Three, a half day that leaves your afternoon free for travel or exploring San Antonio, you can participate in sessions that can help you design a meaningful quality assurance performance improvement (QAPI) program, meet the recently revised Life Safety Code requirements and update your sterilization policies and procedures in line with new requirements.

Our host hotel for the seminars, the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, opens Seeking Authors

directly onto the River Walk and overlooks the historic Alamo mission. During your stay, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city from the hotel’s rooftop pool and visit the more than 100 shops, restaurants and clubs located on the banks of the river. These 2½-day seminars will offer you a more personalized experience than ASCA’s annual meetings and more opportunities to connect directly with the presenters. Register online today at www.ascassociation.org/2017Seminars. I hope to see you in San Antonio.
