Postponement of the 15th World Conference on Investment Casting
by Joseph E. Fritz, Executive Director, Investment Casting Institute A
midst the daily pandemonium much of us are experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is easy to lose sight of the 15th World Conference in Investment Casting. Rest assured, we have not.
At a Meeting of the Board of Direc- tors, held on Monday, April 27, 2020, it was agreed with unanimity to postpone the event to next year. The new dates for the event are October 24-27, 2021 and the venue has not changed. We will still be at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
I took a number of factors into con-
sideration before making this recom- mendation to the Board of Directors. They included the probability of US bor- ders being open and the current difficul- ty in securing a visa, the inconveniences related to mandatory quarantine when entering the US as well as when return- ing home, the long lead time associated with equipment manufacture and inter- national shipping, and most importantly,

the health and wellbeing of delegates, exhibitors and attendees. Though not an easy decision, all factors considered support it.
So, what does this mean to you? • As we have not opened event registration, there should be no impact to Delegates or Expo Attendees with the exception of updating your calendars
• For those of you who have submitted Abstracts, you will be contacted in the coming weeks with feedback
• For our Exhibitors, booth deposits will be applied to the 2021 event with no changes to floor plan
The postponement of this event and the cancellation of the Business and Leadership Development
Conference
have created voids in our offering. This year’s two new Member exclusive benefits, the monthly Keynote Speaker and Essential Charts webinars, only go so far in addressing this void.
Thank you for your understanding and your ongoing support.
For this reason, we are currently reviewing virtual platforms on which the Institute can host this year’s Technical Conference and Expo. Granted, we will have to wait until next year’s World Conference to have our equipment show, but that will not stop event exhibitors from showing their equipment in action, taking attendees on a plant tour or listening to and watching product testimonials from industry colleagues. Though a final decision has yet to be rendered concerning this event, it is important that we let you know what is under consideration.
