teaching a lot plus doing lots of grant applications! Q: What do you need for support? It’s a very uncertain financial time for artists and arts organizations. Right now I have really no income since our online class revenue is going towards keeping ACB afloat. Q: How can DCNT help support you? I think awareness of any grant or financial help would be great - but curated. I’ve spent a lot of time reading articles about exist

yet or applications

funding that doesn’t that might have

financial backing but not yet. Q: How you are coping during the pandemic? I think staying busy and active is keeping me going. I do pilates every day and I give myself a break from my computer with about an hour walk. I am quarantining at my sister’s lake house so I get to walk in the country! I have a tiny apartment in central Dallas and I am really thankful that I am able to have space and quiet out here with my cats! Q: Are you continuing to provide classes for students? Yes! We have about 25 hours of group classes a week online plus private lessons for $50/hour. Q: How do you see yourself coming out of this situation? We really hope that we can open for our summer intensives and do morning and evening sessions with a capped number of students for safety. Most summer intensives across the country are cancelling since they can’t use college dorms so we want to give students a place to dance this summer with incredible faculty and great training! To

Q: What you are doing in these uncertain times? Ballet Dallas is continuing to create and giving back to the community. We have started Pop-up Premieres, which happen every other Friday (April 3, 17, May 1 etc) on Facebook Live at facebook.com/balletdallastx at 5:00pm. Ballet Dallas is excited to announce the appointments of Hailey von Schlehenried as

Resident Choreographer, and Martin

Morgan as Resident Composer. All of us are contributing to the creation of new work that is being shown on Pop-up Premieres. We have moved our Spring Concert, Flourish, to July 24- 25 and are now collaborating with B. Moore Dance, as well as the Orchestra of New Spain. Q: What do you need for support? We are, like everyone, looking for financial supporters. We are looking to promote the exciting things happening at Ballet Dallas even during these unprecedented times! Q: How you are coping during the pandemic? We are coping by meeting for class and continuing to improve and still working on creating art! Q: Are you continuing to provide classes for dancers? Ballet Dallas continues to meet for company class Monday -Friday at 1pm and we allow dancers from outside the organization and students to participate with the company, via a Zoom Invitation, which they receive after making a suggested donation of at least $1.00 through Ballet Dallas’ Venmo account. Q: How do you see yourself coming out of this situation? We see ourselves coming out of this situation as a stronger, more focused, and organized ballet company that is creating innovative work driven by its mission and vision statements. For

n Dallas based company, Ballet Dallas, is taking dance classes and conditioning online as well. Artistic Director, Carter Alexander, will be presenting.

n Ballet Ensemble of Texas (BET) and its home school Ballet Academy of Texas (BAT), went into Spring Break 2020 ready…ready for a few days off, and also ready for their Spring performances of CINDERELLA, which were just a few weeks off. Show was in the bag, props were made, costumes were fit to the dancers, and the dancers were ready! All looked good! Monday March 16, 2020…the world changed. The CDC recommended no gatherings of more than 50 people, and the Mayor said perhaps until March 20. Lisa Slagle, BAT director, and Thom Clower, BET director, decided the best thing to do would be to extend spring break another week for the majority of the school, but

to have the Company attend morning classes and rehearsals. We have a show to do!

Tuesday March 17, 2020…We came in for morning class, and had a planning meeting for 20-21. One of our teachers Miss Allison had used Zoom before, and we discussed the pro’s and con’s of using it for the dancers who were not comfortable coming to the studio. Wednesday, March 18, 2020…Two days after

the initial recommendations from the

government, BAT morning classes went online! By Monday of the next week, we had a full schedule of 70 classes offered to our students, via Zoom!

n Bruce Wood Dance is streaming, teaching and sharing online resources for the community. You can see the company members exercise, teach classes, interview other artists, and cook! Check out what the company is doing in our Q&A. Q: What you are doing in these uncertain times? We are doing our best to maintain business as usual. Our dancers take virtual company class together every morning. Our staff meets weekly (online) and continues daily company operations from home.

Now, teaching via Zoom is, by all counts, MUCH more difficult than teaching in person. When you are in a classroom you can scan the room, see the problems, and quickly give the correction. You can spend more time with each dancer if necessary. The computer clicking is time consuming, and you can truly only see one dancer at a time. Some of the lucky dancers have room to move, most are in their kitchens. But they are there! Every day! And some of them are there morning and evening! Because they are dancers, and dancers take class to improve! CINDERELLA…we shall see. The show was postponed until the first weekend in June. Now it has been postponed until the last weekend in June. We are hopeful…because

we have a show to do! ~ Thom Clower For more information about Ballet Ensemble of Texas and Ballet Academy of Texas visit balletensembleoftexas.org. Follow us on Facebook: @BalletEnsembleofTexas Instagram: @balletensembleoftexas.

Continue to be a great advocate for the arts and remind our government that we are also part of the national economy. Q: How you are coping during the pandemic? We are trying to remain positive but also trying to plan for the future Q: Are you continuing to provide classes for students? Right now we have organized some classes online and we are trying to do our best to keep everyone’s motivation going. Our dancers take virtual company class together every morning. Our staff meets weekly (online) and continues daily company operations from home. Q: How do you see yourself coming out of this situation? It is going to be a slow rebuilding of the studio and a slow funding for the company, but I have never been afraid of hard work, because I believe and love what we do, just can’t wait to get started again. n Enrica Tseng, Artistic Director Ballet Center of Fort Worth took time to answer our questions: Q: What you are doing in these uncertain times? I try to keep myself busy with work related chores and also enjoy some good movies. Q: What do you need for support? I am ok, but concern for our fundings. Q: How can DCNT help support you?

n Ballet Conservatory’s Kelly Lannin says “I started a Virtual Studio which has been great but keeping me super busy. We are starting back with our regular schedule on zoom Monday so I will be back to my routine. I will fill it out. We did have a LakeCities Ballet Theater rehearsal of Serenade because I am still hopeful we can do it in some capacity this summer! Forever the optimist!”

Bruce Wood dancer Olivia Rehrman Q: What do you need for support? Bruce Wood Dance is committed to keeping our dancers and staff employed at their full rate- of-pay for as long as possible. So, donations to our PayPal Giving Fund page (which are fee- free!) are always needed and appreciated and will help us keep this financial commitment going into the foreseeable future. paypal.com/ fundraiser/charity/2272969 Q: How can DCNT help support you? Sharing information from our social media channels and our awesome dancer-created content! It helps us remain connected to each other. We gave our dancers some content ideas then asked a couple of them to take ownership of

a calendar with contributions from themselves and the rest of the company. They came back with loads of fun stuff which we are sharing across our social media channels. Q: How you are coping during the pandemic? Bruce Wood Dance is doing as well as can be expected. This is a stressful time for all and we miss seeing our audience and performing for you. But, we are committed to doing our part in seeing that the community makes it through this crisis with as little loss as possible. Q: Are you continuing to provide classes for students/community/company? While we don’t have a school, an important part of our mission is to bring the healing power of dance to our community through performances and outreach classes. We are streaming recordings of some of our mainstage performances and providing recorded classes and dance tutorials on our social media channels. Our dancers are also offering live classes either through BWD’s Instagram account, their private Instagram accounts, or through schools. We hope everyone benefits from these offerings and are able to keep in shape or take a little respite from their day by watching some beautiful dance or amusing videos. channel. Q: How do you see yourself coming out of this situation? We will emerge stronger on the other side. Each of us is committed to Bruce Wood Dance, its mission, and to North Texas. These commitments keep us going and push us to focus on ways in which we can serve our community. We will continue to do our best to improve the quality of life of our audience by delivering high-caliber dance to you in any way we can. We are thinking of you and wish you all good health. We miss you and we absolutely can’t wait to perform on stage and see everyone in person again very soon. For more information about Bruce Wood Dance visit brucewooddance.org.
