Welcome

The expression ‘nothing lasts forever’ is very pertinent to the Down Cemetery in Trowbridge. Friends of the Down Cemetery (FOTDC) are literally in a race against time to record the inscriptions before deterioration erodes names and information forever. In addition, the group also works to clear undergrowth and runs historical and wildlife tours. Turn to page 12 to read how Mel Boyle became involved as she tried to research her Great Grandparents.

Hopefully by the time this magazine is out in the shops the ground will have started to dry up a bit. If you like walking, why not enter our giveaway on page 14 to win tickets to take part in this year’s Wag Walk raising funds for Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

On the subject of walking having abandoned one walk as the tracks were just too muddy, we took to the high ground above Devizes, the views from the historic Oliver’s Castle are definitely worth a visit.

The signs of spring are all around us, flowers, blossom, buds and the greening of trees. It does make you want to get out and about in the garden and the end of April sees National Gardening Week. For 2020 the RHS theme is ‘Sowing the Seeds of Friendship’. Gardening can be a very sociable activity from garden visits to clubs and societies or even joining one of the ‘Clean Up Gangs’ that work so hard across our towns helping keep them look beautiful. Check out our ‘What’s On Guide’ for gardening events and open gardens under the National Garden Scheme.
