Puppets by W M Kirkland, £8 on Amazon

T

his fast-paced novel sees dark and dangerous characters collide together to pull off a twisted act of revenge. Despite co-existing in the same circles,

you don’t know who you can trust or who is in control when everyone is trying to out manipulate each other.

Meet CEO Dominic who pays to indulge in his warped fantasies, while his company’s share price enters free-fall.

Tracy and John force themselves into the shadowy recesses of human existence, driven by past demons and dominated by heroin.

Anthony is risking it all as he becomes hell-bent on revenge for those he holds accountable for his downfall.

And even the mild-mannered Kevin, an office manager by day, gets up to dark and dismal activities by night.

The author, Wayne Kirkland, who also wrote the 5-star rated book ‘Comedic Depression’, says the characters are an amalgamation and exploitation of some of the worst parts and some of the worst people he has met through various work-related projects around the world, stating:

“For six months I came into the office 30 minutes earlier than I was needed, sat in a corner and wrote. It literally poured out of me. I didn’t know where it was coming from, but it felt good.

“Over the past 20 years, I have had the ‘pleasure’ of working in a few countries around the world, for some huge organisations, sorting out projects and fixing processes. Apart from the financial rewards, those experiences have given me plenty of fodder for my literary cannon. I’ve taken the worst of those places and people, added my aphotic sense of humour and created something bigger than my first book Comedic Depression.”

If you enjoy ‘edge of your seat’ reading, this book promises just that. Not for the light-hearted, the book contains strong language and sexual references throughout.

Bradford on Avon Bowls Club B

radford on Avon Bowls Club, whose home is in Culver Close, opens its doors on Sunday 19th April for the new season. This year promises to continue the big

improvement in the performance of the green following a change in the management regime. Previously the playing surface was treated in the traditional way which allowed a thick layer of thatch to accumulate under the surface, resulting in a very heavy and slow performance.

A group of members have implemented an organic method promoted by John Quinn which uses only natural ingredients to remove the thatch and promote a faster playing surface.

Last season saw a huge difference and it’s hoped that following another course of treatment over the winter the transformation will continue.

For anyone wishing to discover how much fun the game of bowls can be, the Club holds open evenings every Friday from 6pm. Equipment and tuition is free and the bar will be open.

This year’s open day is on Monday 25th May from 11am-4pm when anyone can come along and have a go.

As well as helping with staying fit, bowls has a social side and events are arranged at the Club during the season.
