Apart from the four Basingstoke companies which border our Solent readership area – already detailed – two more companies from our southern region made the Fast Track 100 league table.
For Highwood Group, the Romsey- based construction contractor and developer, it is the second year running they have featured in the table, this year climbing 21 places to 53rd when it comes to UK sales growth.
Nigel Meek, Malcolm Mintram and Nigel Shannon lead the firm they set up in 2003, initially developing affordable housing with registered providers. Forced to diversify when the 2008 financial crisis hit, Highwood expanded into strategic land acquisition and care homes.
Success in these areas and the potential for growth led the three founders to bring in Guy Hayward as managing director in 2015, and under his leadership sales reached £66.7m to February last year, an annual average rise of almost 60%.
With a staff of some 60, sales were helped by the release of the first tranche of 750 homes the company is constructing at its North Stoneham Park development in Hampshire. Currently there are 4,000 development plots under the group’s control.
Rinkit, the Chichester-based consumer goods retailer, has developed a series of brands for its different product lines, including Nicola Spring homeware and the
Tiny Dining line of children’s bamboo dinner sets.
The firm was founded in 2008 by Richard Goss, who was soon joined by his friend Rob Lowe, now managing director. It received investment from business angels in 2016 and 2018, giving them a 31% stake in the firm.
Rinkit now ships more than 90,000 orders each month, many through Amazon, rising to a quarter of a million in the run-up to Christmas. With a staff of 45, sales grew to over £17m last year, averaging nearly 50% increases and gaining 78th place in the UK table. Goss recently moved to Australia to grow the firm’s exports.
