Inside ICI

Getting the Most Out of Your Membership By Joseph E. Fritz, Executive Director H

ere it is, the much awaited Buyer’s Guide. As it is our practice to get this issue to as many foundries as

possible to better serve the industry, this issue is being mailed with an augmented circulation, reaching an additional 400 foundries. So, whether you are a regular subscriber or if this is your first time reading INCAST Magazine, enjoy. Now to the topic at hand. I would like to take this opportunity to speak to those of you who are new members, considering membership, or are just not feeling that your company is fully engaged in the Investment Casting Institute (ICI). Our data shows that our long-term Members are our most engaged Members. The fact is, the greatest Member

Benefit comes from active participation. Through your company’s involvement, you can develop a personal network with professionals from foundries, suppliers, customers and peers.

You can also

enhance your technical understanding of our process as well as your business acumen. Nearly every ICI event can be characterized as a learning/networking opportunity

Let me offer a few examples: The ICI conducts three Regional Meetings per year, these are free events that are open to Members and Non- Members alike.

of a mini seminar series

These events consist followed by

a foundry tour. Members choosing to present at these events establish themselves as technically savvy industry leaders, while attendees not only benefit from a valuable learning experience, but also have the opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals in the industry,

building their professional network. The ICI offers a 10-day Certification

Program as well as a 3-day seminar on Process Controls for investment casting. Both courses are taught by Members for Members, and like our Regional Meetings, whether your company presents or simply attends, everyone benefits. There are two major events each year, the Business & Leadership Development Conference (BLDC), held each spring, and the Technical Conference & Expo (TC&E), held each fall.

Both events

offer receptions and activities ideal for networking. The BLDC & TC&E are the highlight events of our annual programs, and if you have not attended in the past, you are really missing out. The BLDC features the ICI’s Annual

General Session, a motivational keynote speaker and a series of presentations from non-Member professionals well versed in the factors affecting our industry. As many who attend this event bring a guest, we cater to their needs with a special event designed just for them. We also conduct an outing that is ideal for networking while enjoying the unique offerings of our host city. This year we will be meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The

TC&E features a keynote

speaker, a series of Member presented technical papers and the world’s largest investment casting dedicated exposition. Whether exhibiting, presenting or simply attending this event, everyone has an enriching experience. This year, the ICI will be hosting the World Conference in Investment Casting at the TC&E. The event will be held at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California and will

be attended by colleagues from the four points of the globe. There are other ways to derive benefit from the ICI, including writing technical articles for INCAST Magazine, advertising in the Magazine, being a sponsor at any (or all) of our events and participating on a committee to name a few. The ICI is largely a Member run organization and there are always opportunities for interested parties to take an active role. The companies that regularly participate in these activities derive great benefit from their Membership and as a result, make up our long-term Members. So if you are a new member, considering membership, or are just not feeling that your company is fully engaged, my suggestion to you is to participate wherever you can. Benefits come through involvement. Don’t you want to maximize your company’s benefit?
