Marine insurance expert Peter Lole has died. Born in 1937, in London, he started his 56-year long career with Lloyds broker Holmwoods & Back Manson, before joining the Navy to do his two years’ National Service, when he was involved in the 1956 Suez Crisis. After returning to Lloyds he joined the Northern
Assurance Company which was
later acquired by the
Commercial Union, or Aviva as it is known today. Eventually, in 1979, whilst working for a firm of Insurance Brokers in Hounslow, he formed Peter Lole & Company as a vehicle to place marine insurance business. In 1982, he made the decision to carry the business
on independently with his own premises and staff. He retired from day to day
involvement in his business in 2009, handing over to son Simon who, continues running the business today. He had a keen interest in
photography and enjoyed treading the boards in amateur dramatics and opera as well as finding time to become a
parish councillor. and later district
The British International Freight Association (BIFA) is encouraging its members to teams for The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge 2020. The event, for which BIFA is a supporting organisation, aims to promote the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion across the logistics industry, as well as the business benefits, through a series of fun physical, practical and mental team challenges. The event, organised by Nimble Media, in association with Talent in Logistics takes place in June 2020.

Pall-Ex Group has completed the sale of its UK network to its membership and senior management team. RUN DMC Investments Limited, a company created by Pall-Ex founder members Dave Fairbrother, Maggie Larimore and Craig Stevens funded the initial membership part of the acquisition, which makes it the first UK system to be owned by industry personnel from within the business and throughout the membership. The new owners are also discussing shareholder options with Pall-Ex’s International partners, to further grow the European arm of the business. Pall-Ex has appointed former Palletways network development director, Barry Byers, as its UK managing director from March 2020, while former vice president of sales for DHL Martin Rantle has been named non-executive chairman, from January.
Bristol-based forwarder and logistics company Toogood International Transport has joined TPN (The Pallet Network). Toogood is an events and express freight specialist and offers road, sea, and air freight services, as well as freight forwarding and warehousing. It has particular expertise in the aerospace, marine, energy, pharmaceuticals and automotive sectors.
Nottingham-based forwarder Baxter Freight has recruited an additional 11 members to its team and is on track to achieve its goal of increasing employee numbers to 120 by 2021. DFDS has acquired 100% of the share capital of the Netherlands- based Huisman Group. Headquartered in Wijchen, near Nijmegen, in the east of the country, the company specialises in part-load solutions between the Netherlands/Continent and the UK and Ireland. It has bases in Wijchen and Corby and operates 55 trailers and 50 trucks with 104 employees and annual revenues of €23m.
Former Hillebrand director chief executive Chris Porter has joined Kukla Beverage Logistics in a business development role. He will promote the global range of freight and logistics services to the UK drinks industry and consolidate the growing reputation of the company, established in 2017.

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has appointed David Stroud as its policy and compliance adviser responsible for air freight, security and sustainable logistics and he also becomes the manager of BIFA’s Air Policy Group. He has held senior management roles with DHL Global Forwarding, Tigers Global Logistics and NNR Global Logistics. He will be replacing Mike Jones, who is taking on the responsibilities of Colin Young, BIFA’s regional consultant for London West and South West, who retired earlier this year.
