Liebherr Offshore Cranes Set for Africa and Turkey

Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock is manufacturing a 30t offshore crane to be used by BP for supply and maintenance tasks on its Jack Up accommodation platform at its oil and gas operations next to the west coast of Africa.

The contract for the BOS 2600 type crane was awarded to Liebherr by the CIMC Raffles shipyard in Yantai, China, which is carrying out the engineering, procurement and fabrication of the platform. The crane will be used at the BP Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Field, situated off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal.

The BOS 2600 is designed to be compact and function-orientated, says Liebherr, and is therefore suitable for platforms where space on deck is limited. It has a lattice boom with a maximum working outreach of 54.5m, and is equipped with Liebherr Litronic, the company’s in-house developed control system. The crane is also required to meet IECEx certification standards for outside-assembled parts.

“Because of the particular requirements of this project, we are pleased that CIMC Raffles awarded us the contract for the project. With our product we have passed this challenge and fulfilled all contractual agreed specifications,” said Stefan Schneider, Area Sales Manager for Offshore Cranes at Liebherr.

Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock is also manufacturing three offshore cranes to the ENM Korea & Pro DGS shipyard, where the multi-purpose

vessel and heavy-lift barge on which the cranes will be installed are being manufactured. The cranes will be operated by the Basra Oil Company in the Arabian Gulf.

The order comprises two general purpose cranes and one heavy-lift crane, to be used for supply and maintenance work, with delivery due for early 2020. The project will be completed in Turkey, and is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

Liebherr is supplying two ram luffing cranes, type RL 1500, and a board offshore crane, type BOS 14000. The RL cranes will be equipped with a lifting capacity of 50t and mainly used for offshore supply and maintenance purposes; the BOS 14000 crane will have a safe working load of 600t and will be used for lifting single- point moorings (SPM) that must be

maintained on the open sea. The moorings are anchored floating buoys that allow the loading or offloading of gas or liquid products for tanker ships.

The diesel-hydraulic-driven heavy lift BOS 14000 crane, which has a lifting radius of almost 50m and is equipped with a 12-fall reeving, will be installed on the heavy-lift barge with one of the RL 1500 cranes, while the other RL crane will be installed on the multi-purpose vessel.

“This project is a milestone for us since it is the first offshore crane order in Turkey and we provide all cranes for this project. We are very pleased that we have convinced ENM Korea & Pro DGS of our quality. And of course we are optimistic that we will be able to deliver more cranes to Turkey in the future,” said Armin Seidel, Area Sales Manager for Offshore Cranes.
