Welcome to Strachan Corner Dental, the office where We Cater To Cowards.

Hopefully when you read these words, you understand our desire to acknowledge a difficult scenario in a lighthearted manner. And if ‘We Cater To Cowards’ resonates with you, hopefully you already know that you are not alone. Unfortunately, many people struggle with a fear of dentists. Whether this is due to past unfortunate experiences or transferred impressions from those you grew up with, these feelings of anxiety and apprehension are very real. For some, these feelings include embarrassment or a fear of lectures about the existing condition of their teeth. Others are nervous about gagging, feeling claustrophobic, or not being in control of their surroundings. We are aware that the physical set-up involved in receiving dental care necessitates a relationship built on mutual trust. Our dream was to create a warm, inviting, and supportive atmosphere for adults and children alike. Dr. McKenna and his team are dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care in a genuinely compassionate manner. We welcome the opportunity to interact with all who may be apprehensive

or fearful about their dental care, and to thoughtfully communicate all treatment options available for each patient.

Comfort with the dentist, you see, is not some unattainable goal. You need not go through life with the same fear and anxiety that you experience now. You cannot purchase this comfort or find it in a dusty corner of your closet. Nobody else can create it for you, and unfortunately, you can choose to ignore it— at least for a while. However, you can also feel hope— hope that you can reach the place where you no longer need to fear visits to the dentist. You just have to make a decision to do something about your situation. We encourage you to try, even if it doesn’t feel easy. With challenges like this, if we persist, gradually things begin to change.

Why do we encourage you to work on this aspect of your life? This answer is simple! Dental health is closely connected with overall physical health, and has particular links to heart health (heart attack/stroke), diabetes, and other systemic diseases.

When you have poor oral health, it affects not only your teeth, but your quality of life, as well. Missing teeth, oral pain, and infections influence how you eat, speak, and socialize. This can also reduce your quality of life by affecting not only your physical, but your mental and social well- being.

This editorial is meant to serve as a gentle reminder of the necessary changes needed. Only you can bring about improvement to this area of your life; well, in cooperation with a considerate dental team. Wherever you choose to go for your dental needs, we wish you great success in this regard.

If you choose to come to Medicine Hat’s newest dental clinic, you will see our logo of a prairie antelope with her fawn. Our logo portrays the character of the office. We love seeing children and we provide dental care for the whole family. With iPad games and toys in our kids’ area, free parking, and uplifting surroundings featuring Medicine Hat motifs, we extend a warm welcome to you.
