Adjustable Cam For Vending Machine


This adjustable cam for a vending type coffee brewing machine was previously produced as an aluminum die casting. However, investment casting the cam produced greater strength and improved corrosion resistance - an important factor in food handling equipment.


The cam weighs one ounce and is 11//'xl". It is produced m 310 stainless steel with a surface finish of 60-90 RMS.

Weight of these parts is approximately


two ounces. They are l"xl1;2"x3/1.'' in size. They are cast in manganese-chromium low alloy steel AISI E-6150 and with heat treatment are hardened to Rockwell Scale "C" 37-42.

The intricate internal passages are cast to the required shape with walls capable of withstanding 2000 PSI upon pressure testing. A hardenable grade of stainless steel AMS-5355 was selected for this part from the wide range of alloys available to the users of investment castings.


The finished item conforms to stringent government require- ments pertaining to X-ray, Zyglo, and heat treatment.
