Fair’s 2019 horse shows, held September 5-14 at New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Al- buquerque, caused many smiles. In the Palomino Horse Show, high-points (HPs) included Ray Mar- tinez (Open & Ama- teur/Zips Cool Cowboy) and Sharon McClain (Amateur-WT/Sure To Skip). Palominos that won HPs in the 4-H Show were Denny Turner (Novice/Gold Classic Las), Jenna Mendez (Jr/Surenuff- skippen), and Presley Wright (Sr/Shesa Golden Krymsun). In the Paint Horse Show, HPs were Brit- tany Sonntag (Amateur/Millennium Assets), Karen Kennicott (WT-Am- ateur/Just Spot My Dot), and Hallie Blair won the APHA Youth Western Pleasure Championship plus 13&U HP. Paige Reeves and Paiges Joy won the HP APHA Solid Bred. Ash- ley Mossman earned the All-Breed trophy saddle. Four 4-H youth had bought yearlings with their own money, and trained them themselves with lots of long hours, dedication, and patience. In the State Fair 4-H 2- Year-Old Futurity, Kelsie McDon- ald took first place, followed by Antonio Lujan in second, Magdelena Lujan in third, and Colby Priest in fourth.
Texas Rose Horse Park, Tyler,
hosted the Texas Rose Classic Sep- tember 11-15. Big winners included Cento Blue ($5K 1.2m Open Speed Derby/Christian Heineking), Hash- tag ($10K USHJA National Hunter Derby/Mario Repas), MTM Cravitz ($15K 1.35mTexas Rose Classic
Grand Prix/Na- talee Haggan), and Top That ($2,500 USHJA Pony Hunter Derby/Peyton Addington).
Hallie Blair won the APHA Youth WP title and the HP 13&Under Award at NM State Fair.
Cross C Productions Xtreme
Million Qualifier and Open 5D, held September 20-22 in Levelland, paid out $19,136.02. Big winners in- cluded Harlee Barela (Warmup 1D, 9-20/Thlastwicked/16.134) / Wenda Johnson (9-21 Open 1D & Xtreme Million Qualifier/Dreams First Flash/15.701 plus 9-22-Xtreme Mil- lion Qualifier 1D/MacGyver Moon- flash/16.117), and Courtney Kizer (9-22-Open-1D/A Streak
