NOVEMBER 13 – 17. MEADOWS SCHOOL OF THE ARTS (SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY) PRESENTS SMU MEADOWS FALL DANCE CONCERT PERFORMED BY THE MEADOWS DANCE ENSEMBLE. The Fall Dance Concert will premiere a new work by NYC jazz/tap artist Caleb Teicher, winner of a Bessie Award and Dance Magazine’s “Best Emerging Choreographer” Reader’s Choice Award. Teicher is known for his unique style of theatricality, humor, emotional expression and aesthetic exploration. He possesses “rare grace and style that, when coupled with speedy and impressive footwork, makes him one of the tap world’s leading young artists.” (Jacob’s Pillow Festival) Also on the program will be a premiere by acclaimed Dallas-area choreographer and Meadows Artist-in-Residence Carter Alexander. Alexander, who is also co-artistic director of Ballet Dallas, will set his new work to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major. His creative blend of classical Balanchine with contemporary movement has won him accolades throughout the U.S. Rounding out the concert is Robert Battle’s rousing Battlefield, originally created with the Meadows Dance Ensemble in 2001. Battle, currently artistic director of the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, choreographs works that are daring, visceral, and highly explosive, leaving audiences filled with energy and excitement. NOVEMBER 24. BALLET NORTH TEXAS PRESENTS THE NUTCRACKER - A SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE. Ballet North Texas is thrilled to present a sensory-friendly performance of The Nutcracker Suite for children, families and adults with sensory sensitivities,
autism spectrum disorder or other special needs.
Appropriate changes will be made to this performance to create a welcoming and safe space for all in attendance. A perfect introduction to the beloved classic, The Nutcracker. This performance opens in Act II with the Sugar Plum Fairy introducing all the characters of the Land of Sweets. The Nutcracker Prince, himself presents Clara to the Sugar Plum Fairy and they tell the story of Clara’s adventure, breaking the Nutcracker spell, and defeat of the Rat King. In celebration, the Sugar Plum Fairy offers all the treats of the land, accompanied by dances from each country. The final performance is by the newly reunited Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker Prince, to one of the most famous and treasured pieces of the entire ballet. A magnificent grand finale brings the festival to its thrilling conclusion as Clara begins her journey home, waking on the couch in the parlor. Was it all a dream or … did it really happen? IMPULSE DANCE PROJECT PRESENTS NOT YOUR AVERAGE MASQUERADE: AN IMMERSIVE DANCE PRODUCTION imPULSE dance project begins it’s 8th season with its most unique, and most INTERACTIVE creation to date- Not Your Average MASQUERADE: an immersive dance production. Created in collaboration by Artistic Director Anastasia Waters and imPULSE dancer Miranda Spence this dance experience takes the audience on a journey through a strange circus. But there is more than what meets the eye in this elusive spectacle. The performers go on a journey as well; a journey of self-discovery, and revealing their true identity. This production aims to create a unique dance experience for the viewer, releasing them from the limitations of one seat, and freeing them to move about and view the dance from a variety of perspectives. This creation encourages all to step away from the shiny screens, tablets,
