FROM THE EDITOR

The end of year is just around the corner, but the dance season is just getting started! Holiday productions are in in full swing and

companies are already working on spring performances.

Changes are in the air. This year we said goodbye

Director of Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet

Emilie Skinner as

embarked on a new prospect in California. Company member Erin Boone took the helm and

moved the company to Houston. City Ballet, established by Dance Council of North Texas founder Denise Brown, closed its doors after 69 years. New companies have broken ground, as well as performance venues.

Accomplishments are abundant. DCNT scholarship recipients have been offered jobs or year around positions at professional dance schools and North Texas dance companies have produced outstanding choreography

to Artistic she

and performances. Bruce Wood Dance has earned a coveted spot at the American Dance Platform at Joyce Theater in New York City.

In this issue, SMU student Katie Hopsicker shares her experience and offers advice to dancers as they enter institutions of higher learning. Dallas Repertoire Ballet and Ballet North Texas provide insight into their sensory- friendly Nutcracker performances and discuss why they chose to bring this unique experience to audiences. We also take a look at The Dallas Public Library’s new Story Center and Heritage Lab which offer multiple ways to capture stories and experiences. They even have a VHS to DVD converter so now you can watch all those old dance performances again!

From Dance Council of North Texas, we wish you Happy Holidays and a New Year full of amazing possibilities! Thank you, again, for your continued love and support.
