A FABULOUS talk at our October

from

Bryan Knibbs chair of the Woodbridge Riverside Trust, about what surely must be the most exciting project

in

Woodbridge Probus Club meeting

November

archaeological England;

the

building of a full sized replica of the Saxon ship excavated

at Sutton Hoo.

Brian reported on a ship built at Nydam in Denmark which relates somewhat to the Sutton Hoo replica

and provides

important construction details. Over the next two years a team of expert volunteers will build the ship, using authentic methods, in the long shed at Tide Mill Way followed by sea trials on the Deben. There is

Autumn at Bright Stars

a huge publicity project about this with interest from all the major TV channels. At our next meeting on Monday 4th Woodbridge

at Golf Club will

be Roy Dowding on vehicle manufacturers of East Anglia. It has been home to one of Europe's largest vehicle plants, Innovators

who built cars

that have won Indianapolis and the 24 hour Le Mans and a lot of other facts that I am sure we have never heard of. Do visit our website at woodbridgeprobus.org.uk you are most welcome to join us for lunch and there is no obligation to join Probus.

Alde Valley Academy GCSE Results 2019

ALDE Valley celebrating

Academy is

achievements of one of its most remarkable

and

the outstanding inspirational

students: Isabel Brinkley. On a nationwide level, Izzy has joined the 4.7% of students who gain a level 9 at GCSE. But in fact, Izzy smashed that barrier no fewer than 6 times achieving a level 9: in English Literature, French, Philosophy and Ethics, History, Physics and Biology. This ‘journey’ to academic

success has

been down to Izzy’s innate extraordinary talents and work ethic, but also in her own words, to “ the phenomenal amount of not just academic, but also emotional

support

and encouragement received over the past 5 years; it truly made

an immense impact

on my GCSE results.” Four grade 8s in Chemistry, Art and Design, English Language and Geography and a grade 6 in Maths completed Izzy’s comprehensive

sweep of results. Izzy herself uses the

words ‘honoured,’ ‘proud’ and ‘ecstatic’ at her results and no student could have deserved those results more. However, Izzy’s time at Alde

Valley Academy was not only distinguished by academic success. As Head Girl, Izzy represented

her many public school on stages with

dignity and aplomb, as well as helping to arrange and compere intra-school

events such as

the Children in Need Talent Show! She was also part of the winning team at the Dora Love Award held by the University of Essex, disseminating the lessons of the Holocaust to future generations. However, Izzy’s first love has always

been her love

of science. But Isabel is not content with academic results. Barely had the ink dried on her last exam paper, than Izzy was on a solitary flight to Indonesia to join a team from Cardiff and the American School of Bangkok to work with the charity Operation Wallacea.

Fun Activity Sessions for Pre-school aged Children

THESE will be held from 10.30am to 12noon on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month during term times at St Michael’s Church Centre, Martlesham Heath IP5 3PL. All youngsters of 0 to

5

years old are welcome to come along to Bright Stars with their parents, grandparents,

friends,

family and/or carers. These mornings are free and usually involve singing, games, making crafts to take home and telling stories from the Bible for the first half hour. So far this term activities have included making paper trumpets and celebrating harvest with paper plates covered with pictures of fruit, vegetables and other foods. We then have refreshments

This involved strenuous work inside the rain forest as well as scuba diving; in addition to GCSE revision, Izzy had had to take and pass a course in diving on her own initiative! This passion is reflected in her choices Level:

when the adults can chat and the children can play until approximately 12noon. You are welcome to come

along to any of our mornings, just turn up, no need to let us know in advance. We look forward to seeing you this autumn!

The Autumn Term session dates are: November 11th, November 25th, December 9th.

If you would like one of our

Bright Stars leaflets with the session dates on it give us a ring on the number below and we will be happy to send it to you. If you would like further information please contact: Sonya & Maureen Burrows Tel. 01473 625196.

at her A

Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Sociology. Izzy’s adventurous spirit will also take her to Iceland next year to study volcanoes and glaciers, pursuing her passion for environmental science. A young lady who is passionate about

climate change and

‘making a difference,’ perhaps we are seeing the birth of a Suffolk Greta Thunberg! Mr Mayhew, Headteacher Alde Valley

at Academy

said, ‘Izzy has always been a tremendously driven young lady who is determined to be the best that she can be. Her single-minded approach coupled with our fantastic staff have put her in a perfect position to realise her dreams.’

Alde Valley Academy wish this amazing alumna every success. But the person with the final words must be Isabel herself: “those first huge leaps at GCSE … could only have been made successfully by the sheer amount of assistance from the staff at Alde Valley Academy. I am and have always been told that I am my worst critic (by many!) and so would often doubt myself, but down to such relentless encouragement, I am ecstatic with my results and will forever remember (and miss) my time at Alde Valley.” We also had many other students achieve huge success with GCSE level 9 and 8 result;

to mention a few: Olivia Crum Ewing, Erin Pain, Kayleigh

Buzzard,

Leyton Elvin, Eve Pegg and Grace Tanton-Brown. Well done to all the Alde

Valley students of 2019. We wish you all the very best in your future.

The busk took place in the Thoroughfare in Woodbridge and raised £388, which will go towards the club’s support of various local, national and international charities. We would like to once again thank the people of Woodbridge for

their generous donations. At a recent meeting we were pleased to be able to present a

cheque for £700 to feature the
