Norfolk State University Names New Chief of Police and Public Safety

After conducting a national search,
Norfolk State University administrators have selected Vincent M. Moore to serve as the new Chief of Police and Public Safety.
Moore brings decades of
leadership experience in federal law enforcement and the military. His
expertise encompasses
communications, crime prevention, counterterrorism, crisis mitigation, disaster preparedness, emergency response, event security, hazardous materials, program administration, public safety, risk reduction, strategic planning and threat assessment.

FBI as a Special Agent and was based in the Norfolk Field Office for 20 years. At the bureau, he directed daily operations, mentored personnel, led highly specialized teams and collaborated with multiple law enforcement agencies and other external entities to plan and conduct actions with regional, national and international impacts. Te Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 31st class in 2019, the Foundation has provided over 6,150 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $69 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.

Applicants must be: Current high school (or home-schooled) student attending a school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools) who will graduate during the 2019-2020 academic school year.U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees based on the guidelines utilized by U.S. Department of
Campus Liaison Coordinator, he advised nine colleges and universities in developing and instituting procedures to manage security.
In 2014, Moore retired from the
U. S. Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel after a career that included combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to Kuwait, Central Africa Republic, South Sudan and Uganda. Moore attended Florida A&M University and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In addition, he has also attended numerous FBI advanced training programs, held top-secret security clearances and earned certifications to become an FBI negotiator and law enforcement instructor.
The new chief said he is prepared
to focus his attention on safeguarding the security of the diverse segments of constituents who make up the NSU community. Moore is married and has two sons. For more information, visit
