Ashby Family

Bob Ashby started his mechanic apprenticeship in 1973 at the Shell gas station located at the corner of Division Avenue and 7th Street N.W. in Crescent Heights. Bob eventually co-owned his own shop and to this day, is a very sought after mechanic. In the 80’s, Bob and Kim, along with their young son Shane put in a lot of time racing Bob’s 1962 Acadian and Bob spent a lot of time helping the other racers go fast and stay running as well. With all of the track time that Bob and Kim exposed Shane too, you could say it was a very early start to his mechanical apprenticeship, and that paid off big time.

By the age of 22 Shane had earned his Journeyman Millwright Ticket and was well on his way to a very successful career. Like his Dad, Shane became very sought after by fellow racers because of his excellent welding, machining, mechanical and fabricating abilities.

Shane was hit with the racing bug at a young age, instead of cars his ride was a new 1998 CBR900. Shane eventually graduated all the way up to a turbocharged 1755 CC Suzuki Drag bike that ran 8.06 seconds in the quarter mile at 161 mph! The bike and the engine in the bike was built, tuned and maintained by Shane. I’m pretty proud to say I painted that bike for Shane.
