trunk and even the complete bottom of the car. That’s well over 25 years ago now and the car still has that paint job. Don still races the car out at the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association. It’s powered by a 363 cubic inch small block ford motor, it has a C4 transmission and a Ford 8” rear end. This combination gets him down the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds at 117 MP/H most of the time.

Over the years, Don and Connie Edelman spent a lot of time racing in the summer’s and their son Chance was often taken along. Eventually Chance had his own junior dragster and from there he graduated into running a real race car. Quite a few years ago I remember Don saying how he liked having Chance involved in racing because Don and Connie always knew all of Chance’s friends and their parents as they all raced together. He seldom had to wonder who Chance was with or where he was.

Chance has gotten into racing as well and runs his

own 1984 Capri with a 460 Ford that’s topped off with Trick Flow heads. The performance of the Capri is closely matched with the Falcon and also runs 11.30’s at around 118 MP/H. Chance earned his journeyman parts ticket and has worked for his parents at City Auto Parts since 2015. Things have certainly worked out well for the Edelman’s. They work together at the store and race together with all of their close knit group of friends out at the Drag Strip on the weekends.

I’m going to put a plug in for the drag strip as well. You don’t need a race car to race. If your daily driver mini-van or F150 for example is a good safe vehicle, you can race it and see if racing is for you. Do you have a kid who is itching to drive? Kids from 13 to 17 years old can race 1/8 mile at the track in a real car as long as a parent or guardian rides along in the front passenger seat. Entry fees are cheap and you will need to borrow a helmet from someone until you become addicted to racing yourself. For more details go to the track or MHDRA.COM
