OBITUARY Harry Tapner


It is with great sadness that we report the recent death, age 95, of industry veteran and ASM co-founder Harry Tapner. Harry was one of the pioneers of LACES


(London Airport Cargo EDP Scheme), the first computerised Customs Clearance system in the world, which was introduced in 1971 by Customs at Heathrow for the Clearance of Import Consignments. The true scale of the ground-breaking vision

collapse of the Travicom system, Harry managed negotiating the fall back to ACP80 and for distributing the compensation obtained from Travicom to the agents involved. Harry was a truly remarkable man who had a


fundamental and extensive influence in all areas of the industry. He had a wealth of experience and remained


passionate about the industry long after his retirement. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his


outstanding contribution and commitment to the industry.
