FITNESS MYTHS

Thismonth Personal Trainer,NicholasAlexander Jones, busts the biggestmyths in the fitness industry

Cuttingout carbs is thebest way toloseweight It isn’t quite as simple as this. But Iwill make it simple to understand: Yes lowering carbswill lead toweight loss. But on the flip side of this if you lower carbs youwill need to up your good fats. This is basically to prevent the body using your protein stores as its main energy source and thus causing loss ofmusclemass during exercise. Alsowhen on a higher fat diet your body automaticallywill increase the rate atwhich itmetabolites fats. I recommend the followingmacros

split for a lowcarb diet: Fats -35% Protein -40% Carbohydrates -25%

Idon’t needtoeat vegetables as I take vitamins everyday Vitamin andmineral supplements are a great idea, but they are just what they say ‘a supplement’.When it comes to nutrition there are no substitute for the real deal! Personally I don’t like any vegetables or greens so trymy trick andwhack themall into a smoothie ... just add some fruit and drink them!

As a female Idon’t liftweights as Idon’twant tolookbulky Letme start by saying that building musclemass is probably one of the most difficult things you can do. It takes years of consistentwork. As a female liftingweightswillNOTmake you bulky!Combinedwith a good diet and some cardio, what itwill do is tone, tighten and firmyour body.

Idon’twant togotogymas it is fullof fit, skinnypeople andIwill lookoutofplace The gymis one of themost welcoming social environments. Everyone has to take that scary first step to improving themself, and gyms are full of people all at different points in their journey. The ‘FitFam’ community is very supportive of each other,we all started at the bottomand have all had the same struggles to get towherewe are, so don’t be scared as youwill bemade more thanwelcome.

MyPTsaidthat fasted cardio(cardiobefore you eatbreakfast) is thebest way toloseweight This is tough as there have been a lot of different studies that have tried to prove and disprove this theory, so I

can’t firmly say if this is amyth or not. But I can say this is all about personal preference, do you feel you have more energy first thing in the morning/afternoon or evening?Do you prefer cardio on an empty or partially full tank? Personally during prep I do cardio fasted, I find it easier on an empty stomach and it helps me buildmy appetite beforemeals. I also hate cardio so it gets it out the way early!
