SUSANNA RICHARDSON E VERY THING ORGANI S ED

LIVE 24-SEVEN

SUSANNA RICHARDSON HAS EVERYTHING ORGANISED. . .

Susanna is a wedding and event planner who has been responsible for some of the most talked about parties both here and abroad. A former city girl, she's swapped her heels for the Cotswolds and we're delighted that she will be sharing her musings with us each month.

I'm sitting writing this in brilliant sunshine in my garden, covered in sunscreen. Yes readers, that elusive yellow thing in the sky has made an appearance! Amazing for us

humans, but my two Goldens are not massive fans. 84

I know as Brits we are obsessed with the weather, but my obsession runs far deeper. You see, I always have to have a bad weather plan; a plan A, B and C for every weather eventuality and in the UK that can literally mean the change on a pinhead – sunny one minute and tipping with rain the next. Best laid plans go to the wayside and quite frankly it severely cramps my style. The amount of times that I've set up a drinks reception outside only to have to run around like a mad thing because the heavens have opened is beyond me. Quite frankly, no wonder it’s all we talk about!

Then we have the added bonus of our internet not working in the rain. I learnt very early on that a trade-off of Cotswolds life was appalling internet and no phone signal. I recall when we first moved in and I had to hang over our gate with an arm extended and one leg in the air just to get one bar! At times, this is blissful and I’ll admit to spending far too much time on my phone, but when you are trying to work and the manhole cover up the road floods and cuts off your lifeline to the outside world, it’s just not funny. Modern communication defeated by some water? This is probably why so many of my clients decided to marry abroad.

I’m just about to head off on another flight, as it’s the month of upping my frequent flyer miles and jetting all over the place. This sounds a lot more glamorous than it is, especially when you have to fly in for a two-hour meeting and head straight home again, oftentimes with the airline losing your luggage. Last month saw me and my assistant dashing through Gatwick lugging 70kg of excess baggage which looked like it housed bodies! I'm certain we're on some government watch list? All of that for a swanky hen do in Mykonos!

This is now my fifth flight in a month, which when you consider I'm actually really scared of flying, isn’t bad! In the last six years I’ve actually only worked on two weddings in the UK! How crazy? Pretty much all of my clients now marry aboard, mostly because of that pesky weather I reckon!
