Garage Doors EASY GARDEN FURNITURE MAKEOVER
First check all the wood is dry and free from mold or mildew. If there is mould or mildew, mix up a solution of one part household bleach: three parts water. Completely rinse the furniture and allow it to dry out thoroughly before applying paint or stain. You may need to use proprietary cleaners specifically for this purpose if the damage is severe. Protect the furniture from rain/damp whilst drying. Preparing the surface - sanding If the old finish is in reasonable condition, simply roughening the surface should suffice using coarse-grade sandpaper and working with the grain. If the existing condition requires more than that, take the furniture back to bare wood, removing any old finish – best accomplished
by using a quality wood stain remover. Priming You should always use a good primer especially formulated for external use if you are proposing to apply a lighter colour over a dark one, if the wood is exposed, if there are knotty sections, or if any stains remain. Brush on the primer, working with the grain, using a good-quality nylon/polyester brush. Painting For long term good looks, ideally use a stain or paint especially formulated to protect against weather and temperature extremes as well as UV rays. With an already primed surface, one coat of stain should do but if you didn't need to prime, apply a second coat to achieve the best results. Once it's dry, sit back and enjoy the sunshine!
