CELEBRATING BUSINESS SUCCESS IN THE SOUTH WEST OF ENGLAND

Introducing SHED THE CONFLICT, a new mediation service helping business teams move forward…

South West HR professional Pippa Richardson has launched a new service – Shed The Conflict - to help business teams quickly deal with work-place conflict.

With more than 20 years’ experience operating at director level in FTSE companies, Pippa offers Workplace Conflict Mediation to help people who are stuck and struggling with a broken relationship at work – usually where inhouse efforts at resolution have failed.

“Conflict is not something we proactively seek out,” Pippa said. “In fact, most of us find it stressful, upsetting and destabilising as we seek peace and harmony in our daily lives.

“If that conflict happens at work it can have some pretty awful side effects including stress, anxiety, sleeplessness, depression, absenteeism or even resignation.”

“Mediation, particularly when applied early on, is a great way to build bridges and save valuable time, effort and business upheaval.”

The risks of conflict: Whether it’s company-wide employee relations issues or dealing with clashing team members, it always comes down to the same thing: two parties falling out over something and not being able to move past the issue.

If left to fester, this can lead to: • People developing mental health issues and there could even be the risk of injury claims.

• HR and legal costs associated with managing formal grievances, disciplinary and court proceedings.

• Skills and knowledge loss if one party leaves. • Loss of productivity.

• The risk of sabotage to company information, systems or processes if feelings of resentment are allowed to go unmanaged.

How does the process work? Mediation is voluntary. Without the cooperation of those in conflict, the process can’t even begin to take place, let alone succeed.

Both parties are free to withdraw at any time, however they should enter the process with full agreement, total engagement and a willingness to try to reach a resolution.

Individual meetings take place where each person has the opportunity to share their experience of the conflict and set out what they need to move past it. This is then followed by a joint meeting where Pippa supports the individuals to have a conversation and explore each other’s perspectives and try to reach a resolution.

The cost: Prices will be quoted per client and start from £650 plus reasonable expenses for a day's mediation.

If it’s deemed to be preferable to take part in mediation at a ‘neutral venue’, Pippa also owns her own professional venue, The Head Shed, in Wiltshire.
