PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE
REVIEW:DACIA LOGAN MCV TECHROAD BY SUE COOKE
I usually spend a Sunday morning visiting my local car boot. I really enjoy rifling through items on display and picking up the latest bargain. I guess everyone likes to feel they’ve got a good
deal and achieved best value for money without being ripped off. So I particularly enjoyed driving the Dacia Logan MCV to the car boot and loading this winner of the ‘best value brand’ with my best value goodies. Dacia won at the Auto Trader New Car awards 2019
for the second year running, proving a firm favourite of the 63,000 real car owners. Unlike other car awards, the annual Auto Trader New Car Award winners are based on the opinions of those who have bought, driven and lived with their new vehicles. In 2018 Dacia was named the most recommended car brand in the UK in a YouGov survey, beating 34 other manufacturers. I spent a week driving the Logan MCV, an estate, which
on the Stepway model adds a rugged exterior look. Muscular exterior styling includes flared wheel arches, dark metal roof rails and a raised ground clearance of 50mm which took me easily over the muddy fields the car boot organisers had arranged for parking. As an estate car there is impressive interior space,
with five proper seats. The Logan can carry items up to 2.7m long with the rear seats flipped. All that space is easy to access, too, thanks to a 60:40 split folding rear bench on all versions and a load-friendly boot that’s 1,011mm wide and 787mm tall. The 573-litre boot easily accommodated my larger car boot goodies and the very flat sill, which is a modest 589mm above ground level, made it really easy to load heavier items.
Dacia has just launched a new limited edition across
the range called Techroad. The new trim is available in two exclusive colours, Fusion Red and Highland Grey and can be spotted by side decals and motif details. As well as the extra design features, as standard the Techroad edition on the Stepway model comes with soft-feel steering wheel, air conditioning, Media Nav Evolution multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB Radio and Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors, cruise control and speed limiter. Dacia says by keeping things simple we are able to
offer high quality cars with proven reliability but I did miss a feature I would find on other test cars. There was no mirror on the driver’s sun visor! There is a choice of a Blue dCi 95 diesel or the petrol
engine I road tested, a TCe 90 engine. Both are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The latter has a lively performance reaching 62mph in 12.4 seconds. For business drivers, a gearshift indicator and an ECO mode that limits engine torque, help to reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10% for even more savings at the pumps. After clocking up a hefty mileage total to reach
another car launch I realised how comfortable the journey had been and how easy the Logan is to drive. Each Dacia comes with a three-year/60,000 miles warranty, plus a two-year paintwork warranty and six years’ anti-corrosion cover, as standard. If you are looking for practicality, a good range of standard equipment and best value for money then the Dacia Logan MCV Stepway Techroad is definitely worth a good look.
