While away a couple of hours at Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design, and you will come to realise that there are a myriad of talented craftsmen and women working quietly and expertly, often under your nose, producing exquisite work from beautiful timbers.
‘That’s all very well but it will cost a fortune’ you say? Ok, there is no denying that some pieces are costly, a reflection of their complexity, precision and experience that the craftsperson has garnered to produce such work. These pieces are often incredible though and there is nothing to stop you admiring and appreciating such astounding work!
However, look closely at the prices you are presented with in many shops and then look again at much of the work from small workshops and you may be surprised by what is possible, even on a relatively small budget. Bespoke pieces can be any size, colour, shape or style and you will engage with the actual craftsperson.

Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design has supported hundreds of small workshops from across the British Isles for 25 years. Its annual exhibition showcases around 300 exhibits from over 70 workshops in the beautiful, neo-classical, Thirlestaine Long Gallery in Cheltenham. A visit makes for an inspiring and refreshing experience that will reassure you of this traditional craft’s health and lead you to embrace a whole new world of shopping!
