Galliford Try, the Uxbridge-based construction and housebuilding company, topped the list among large and medium-sized companies when it came to share price rises of Thames Valley quoted companies in May.
Towards the end of the month it announced its building business has signed contracts worth a combined £30.9 million within the defence sector. Firstly it was appointed by BAE Systems in a £23m deal to construct new facilities at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Then in Devon it was appointed by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to provide a new accommodation block at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines.
Futura Medical, the Guildford pharmaceutical group that develops innovative products for the prescription and consumer healthcare markets, was the star performer of the month with a 21% rise.
Following a strategic review last autumn, Futura focused on the two large market categories of sexual health and pain.
Preliminary results for last year show £5.85m raised to progress Phase 3 of its study in erectile dysfunction, and cash resources up from £8.36m to £9.16m. Chief executive James Barder described 2018 as “a significant year of progress for Futura” and said the funding would be a “major value inflection point for the company”.
