If I leave my windows open on certain days I’ll know there’s a sporting event going on from the cheers and shouts from the pub around the corner. Te noise is often that loud and the pub is not even that close. Likewise, if you’ve ever been near Te Globe pub on Baker Street on a day when any match is held at Wembley, or have found yourself in St John’s Wood between May and September surrounded by a sea of men in red and yellow ties, you’ll know how seriously Britons take their sports and sporting events. In this issue we look at some of the most popular sports in Britain and give you tips on how and where to play.

Not a sports fan? Tere are plenty of ways to enjoy the great British summer without kicking or hitting a ball. Kettle’s Yard, Kiftsgate Gardens and Avebury stone circles are three slightly unusual destinations to check out. We cover them starting on page 8. Or if you’re London-based, enjoy a drink and the view at one of the rooftop bars we feature on page 10. If you’re looking for inspiration, we have two very different tales of expats who followed their dream of living in Britain - Dutch expat Nele van Hout, whose quest to study English literature at university in England is told on page 25 and Saiphin Moore’s story of going from nanny to Tai restaurant empire builder is on page 27.

Te summer months tend to be a bit quiet at FOCUS but we still have some great events for our members to enjoy. Be sure to check out Events & Seminars on page 34 for those and to save the date for upcoming events in the autumn. Looking forward to seeing you there.
