Capitol Area QHA hosted its first All-Breed Classic


Horse Show weekend May 4-5 at Temple’s Bell County Expo. Saturday’s western show drew good-numbers in halter classes, and ring steward Dean Winger celebrated his birthday, receiv- ing a small trophy, rosette, and a loud birthday song! Western HP champs were Gracie Moreland (18&U-WT/SonnyButter- ChickenBiscuit), Carol Smith (19&O-WT/Purely Sensational), Sara Holleman (Beginning-Rider/Dont Skip My Chrome), Katherine Smith (18&U/Cotton Candy Machine), and Marissa Hurst-Schurig (19&O/Original Loper). Sunday’s English/Hunt Seat HP winners included Riley Cooperrider (Small Fry /TJs Show Me the Money), Sienna Lamanna (18&U-WT/Spotted MNMS), Carol Smith (19&O-WT/Purely Sensational), Sabine Lazo (18&U/Luke), and Marissa Hurst-Schurig (19&O/Origi- nal Loper). at Amite’s Florida Parishes Arena, was a huge success. All-around champions were Taryn Leigh Morgan (Open/Been Alotta Fun), Sabrina Turner (Amat/Suddens Got No Sneakers), Denise Hoffman (Select/The Sheik), Cher Blackwell (Youth/Romantic Rendevous), Emma Grace Marangos (Nov-Y/Sheza Sleepy Zippo), and Lau- ren Stillings (Nov-Amat/Invited Black). LQHA youth held a fundraising raffle, resulting in Betty Ann Browning winning an LQHA life membership and Marie Crochet taking home a beautiful tooled leather backpack. Folks ate well Saturday, thanks to Louisiana Seafood Promotion and the Marketing Board for furnishing boiled crawfish and fixings and Ritchie Rivers providing smoked ribs and chicken for those who didn’t eat crawfish!


Sandhills QHA hosted its 86th annual show May


4-5 at Midland’s Horseshoe Arena. Nancy and Gary Don McCain prepared delicious brisket for exhibitors. HPs in- cluded Daniel Dalager (Amat), Alexis Templin (Y), Arzenet Burnes (Select-Am), Olivia Peters (Novice-Y), Robin Hill (Novice-Am), and Matt Howell (Open-Horse). Another show is scheduled for July 13-14.
