Farnam® PyrantelCare™ Daily Dewormer Gives Horse Owners Greater Peace of Mind
Horse owners searching for a safe way to protect against internal equine
parasites will be happy to know Farnam has just released PyrantelCare™ Daily Dewormer 2.11% (pyrantel tartrate). Instead of just using a “purge” paste dewormer a few times a year, a daily
dewormer can offer year-round protection. Purge dewormers interrupt the in- fection cycle of the parasites, but don’t prevent larval migration, which is when most internal damage takes place. A daily dewormer prevents parasite infesta- tions from occurring in the first place. Daily feeding of PyrantelCare™ Daily Dewormer 2.11% provides continu-
ous protection against the most common species and stages of equine parasites, including large and small strongyles, ascarids and pinworms. The daily dewormer works in the horse’s digestive tract by paralyzing
emerging parasite larvae that the horse has picked up in his environment. Be- cause the parasites are killed before they can migrate through the horse’s diges- tive system, they aren’t able to inflict serious damage. The product has a wide margin of safety and is not metabolized by the horse’s body. “With a daily dewormer, you’re putting up a barrier between your horse and
parasites. It’s another tool in the toolbox and is part of an integrated approach to parasite control,” says Tom Kennedy, Ph.D., a veterinary parasitologist based in Westport, Wisconsin. Continuous use of PyrantelCare™ dewormer 2.11% reduces the number of
female parasites laying eggs, meaning your horse will have less exposure to par- asites in his environment. The palatable, easy-to-feed medicated pellets can be used as either a top-dress or mixed in the horse’s daily grain ration. Simply fol- low label directions to feed the correct amount according to your horse’s weight. The product can safely be used in horses of all ages, including breeding
stock. Foals may be administered PyrantelCare™ dewormer 2.11% as soon as they have consistent grain intake, which generally occurs between two to three months of age. PyrantelCare™ dewormer 2.11% may be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of PyrantelCare™ dewormer 2.11%. PyrantelCare™ replaces Farnam’s former daily dewormer Equi Aid CW®
dewormer, so customers who used that product in the past will be glad to learn about the release of PyrantelCare™ dewormer 2.11%. Horse owners can take advantage of a coupon to be used on their next pur-

for ulcer formulation. Feeding smaller, more frequent meals during the day will also reduce the amount of starch being fed in one meal as well as the amount of time the stomach is left empty, thus reducing the chance of ulcers.
Be Strategic Not only is what you feed important, but how you do
it is equally as vital to your horse’s stomach comfort. Pro- longing forage consumption, such as feeding hay in a hay net, can be helpful for the ulcer-prone horse because it reduces the amount of time the stomach is empty and helps to naturally buffer the acid in the stomach. Additionally, feeding a daily preventative supplement
like Vitalize® Alimend® will help your horse’s stomach stay comfortable. Alimend’s formula has a mucoadhesive effect that lines the stomach tissue and is designed to both repair and maintain the integrity of the stomach lining. It contains MHB3® Hyaluronan and Lion’s Mane extract, which have both been proven in clinical research studies to have gastro- protective and healing effects. Alimend is administered with feed twice a day, so the horse receives 24/7 comfort without needing to alter the acidity of the stomach. Because it does not decrease stomach acid, it is ideal for long-term use and allows for less fluctuation in the GI tract. If you are feeding an ul- cer-prone horse, consider adding Vitalize Alimend to its diet.
Avoid Stress Finally, try to avoid any unnecessary stresses that may
exacerbate your horse’s issues. Especially if your horse is a performance horse, allow for regular turnout and exercise while away at a competition. Many horses will tell you when they are uncomfortable, so try to predict any possible concerns and eliminate any issues before they can occur. In these in- stances of high-stress, Vitalize® Equine Recovery Paste can help your horse stay at the top of its game by giving it a boost to both its digestive and immune system. If you have an ulcer-prone horse, you are not alone, and
there are a few things you can do to strategically win the game against your horse’s ulcers. Managing a proper diet consisting of maximum forage with minimum starch, as well as adding a gastric health supplement like Vitalize Alimend while reduc- ing any stressors all make up the formula for a healthy gut.
