New chair for paper recycling body is Angelika Christ


T


he European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) appointed a new chairperson in April.


Angelika Christ, who is also


secretary general of the European Federation of Manufacturers of Corrugated Packaging (FEFCO), will serve at the EPRC for the next two years. Christ has been involved in associations of corrugated board manufacturers for more than 20 years, first in Germany and then at the European level. Prior to FEFCO, she was the managing director of the German


Association of Corrugated Board Industries (VDW) from 1996 until 2007. Her career started with the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), where she worked in a number of positions from 1980-1996. “The EPRC has been very successful in bringing all parties together, develop recyclability guidelines for printed graphic paper and boosting recycling of all papers,” said Christ. “We will continue this work and support the industry efforts to further improve the recyclability of paper packaging on the market.


Recognition for Kathy Buckman Gibson


Kathy Buckman Gibson was recognised as Woman of the Year by the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry’s (TAPPI’s) Women in Industry Division at its recent annual PaperCon conference. A TAPPI Fellow, Buckman Gibson has served as a Trustee of the TAPPI Foundation and is a past board member of TAPPI, PIMA (Paper Industry Management Association), and the Center for Paper Business Industry Studies (CPBIS). She also served on the Board of the Pulp and Paper Foundation of North Carolina State University.


Buckman Gibson has been


involved with the pulp and paper industry for 25 years as owner and director of Tennessee-based Buckman in a number of roles including operations chief, general counsel and chairman.

Rigid Containers appoints new HR director


Rigid Containers, part of recycled paper and corrugated cases manufacturer VPK Group, has appointed Sonia Card as its group HR director to further support and develop the company’s human resources strategy.


She is currently chief executive of KBG Technologies, a joint venture between herself and Buckman established in 2018 as a certified woman-owned business providing chemistries and smart technologies to the pulp and paper industry and water treatment market.


Sonia has previously held senior roles at DS Smith Packaging for four years where she was head of HR, and latterly head of talent & development, for its UK Packaging multi-site operations. Her previous roles have included head of HR at Kuehne+Nagel and Head of HR for civil engineering at Carillion plc.
