PROJECTS & CONTRACTS 31

Klabin orders more Andritz equipment for its Puma II project

Klabin’s Puma II pulp mill project at Ortigueira in the Paraná state of Brazil have been ordered from Andritz. Valued at around €190 million (US$212m), the latest order complements equipment that was supplied for the mill before it was started up in 2016. It includes a wood processing, plant, a recovery boiler, white liquor plant and a power boiler, on an engineering, procurement and construction basis.

M

The wood processing plant uses the same technology as the woodyard for the Puma Unit line including two eucalyptus debarking and chipping lines, chip storage with 360-degree stacker-

ajor production technologies and key process equipment for

reclaimer, chip screening, bark handling with BioCrushers, bark storage, and a purchased biomass receiving system for the new power boiler. Each debarking line is capable of

processing both eucalyptus and pine with world record capacities (pine/euca 400/350 cubic metre sob/h) and consists of a debarking drum, which provides excellent debarking results with very low wood losses, and the unique, horizontally fed HHQ-Chipper (XL model), ensuring high capacity without compromising on chip quality.

The Herb recovery boiler has

a combustion capacity of 3,300 tds per day at 103bar and 502 deg C. It features energy-efficient recovery from gas cooling and feed water preheating technology to maximise steam production for

per day capacity. It has green liquor filtration that minimises waste to landfill, white liquor filtration ensuring high lime mud dryness, which results in low heat consumption in the kiln. The LimeKiln has a multifuel burner and capacity for 450 t/d. The power boiler is based on

power generation. It is designed for long operating periods without requiring wash water and includes sootblowing control technology controlled by a Hanging Heat- Transfer Surface Weight Indicator (HEWI) and the sootblowing Advanced Control Expert (ACE). The white liquor plant is the same as the current Puma unit using a new recaustizing plant with a 5,000 cubic metre

EcoFluid Bubbling Fluidized Bed technology and is combined with the recovery boiler to form a ‘Boiler Island’. This provides savings in both investment and operating costs. The capacity of the boiler is 220 t/h of superheated steam, which is brought to a steam turbine shared with the recovery boiler using bark and wood rejects from the mill as fuel.

The order also includes some

items for the existing Puma Unit pulp line.

Second tissue line for Faderco in Algeria

A complete Advantage DCT 100HS tissue production line is being supplied by Valmet to Faderco for its mill at Warak in Algeria. The order also includes a

rewinder and an extensive automation package including process and quality control solutions. The line is the second to be supplied by Valmet to the mill, the first being started up in 2015. The Warak mill currently

produces baby diapers, sanitary napkins, adult diapers and tissue paper for the domestic market and surrounding countries. The new line will support Faderco’s plan to become be the leader in the domestic sector with a 35 per

cent share. The new tissue machine line will

have a width of 2.8 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min. Its 30,000 tons of output will mean that Algeria will have the capability of becoming a net exporter. Amor Habes, chief executive

of Faderco, commented: “The investment in Valmet’s Advantage

DCT technology, the new complex, will boost our production and support our ambition to reach the position as the fifth largest exporter in the Mediterranean region. We are already present in Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Senegal, Togo, Mali, Guinea Conakry and Qatar, among others.” Bernhard Glifberg, sales manager

of Valmet tissue mills business unit, added: “With this new, high- quality tissue making installation, we are very pleased to continue the journey together with Faderco; a journey which started in 2013.
