Harleston and District University of the Third Age has


relocated its monthly general meeting to the convenient central location of St John’s Church, it seems an opportune moment to explain the whys and wherefores of the organisation to those who have either never heard of U3A or have only a very sketchy understanding of it.


The “Third Age” is the period, usually around the age of sixty, post full time employment and bringing up a family when people have time to devote to their own hobbies and interests. People enjoy more “me time” – as the fashionable expression would have it!


The word “University” can


be a turn off but, in fact, is used in the original sense of the word, meaning coming together socially for stimulating activities.
