the throne and David Lloyd George was Prime Minister. In that time much has changed…. yet, W J Seppings Butchers shop continue to serve the local community from the same shop in the heart of Beccles. The business is located at 9 Hungate, on the site of a former iron and brass foundry which was owned by William’s father-in-law, Frederick Field, so the family link goes back even further! In fact, the Seppings have a history in butchery going back to the 1750s…. how is that for experience! William’s son, Roger, took on the business in 1960 and now it is run by his son, Robert as only the third generation of ownership in one hundred years! Robert has seen 50 years at Seppings having helped at Christmas time in 1969 before working full time in the shop from 1974.


This really is a ‘proper’ butchers shop. There is a team of 17 staff looking after everything from start to finish. The shop takes whole carcasses and butcher it themselves. This means that Seppings are able to offer any joint or cut to any size and weight you may want. Dedicated, professional and experienced butchers are on hand with advice on how to get the best from your meat or the best option for – say – a slow-cooked stew, or succulent roast dinner.
