property Leaders Romans Group – playing an

active role in the community Leaders Romans Group is one of the UK’s largest property services groups formed by the merger of Leaders, Romans and Boyer in 2016. We have over 160 branches across the country and employ more than 2,000 people, writes Peter Kavanagh, chief executive officer

Although we started in residential sales and lettings, we have expanded our services to include lettings and property management, corporate property management, shared ownership, corporate sales, land and development, planning, development economics, design, master planning and architecture, market intelligence, surveys and valuations, financial services and, more recently, block management.

One of our founding principles has been to take an active role in the community and, as we’ve grown, we have looked at being more socially and ethically responsible. In 2016, our culture and community team was formed to find more effective ways of collaborating with local schools, sports clubs, communities and our chosen charities.

Our experienced and passionate culture and community ambassadors always look for ways to engage local communities in schools and colleges. Our ambassadors engage both teachers and students and actively work with charities, such as Learning to Work, to bring work skills and insight to education, as well as Thames Valley Enterprise.

Examples of how we engage schools and colleges include our regular Business Insight days – the perfect opportunity for students to hear from senior members of our management team. Students can also experience a company tour and ask our teams questions.

Our mission is to develop a fun learning environment for students who are learning and adapting to the modern world. We’re looking at key areas of development, including working in a team, sharing ideas and listening skills.

Hands on learning

We’re keen to push learning and upskilling across our business. In fact, we currently have 10% of our business signed up to an apprenticeship – that’s 186 live apprenticeships and we’re aiming to have many more in 2019.

Students who join our training will achieve an NVQ as a Customer Service Practitioner – an invaluable skillset going forward. We feel like customer service sits at the nucleus of the Leaders Romans Group. Once students have fully grasped customer

We actively encourage charity fundraising ideas across our business. For instance, we’ve seen team members challenge themselves to the max for the Reading to Bath walk – which raised money for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, Daisy’s Dream and Sue Ryder. We now have a team member training for the London Marathon, to raise money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

service skills they can go into sales, lettings and new homes.

We also have a lot of graduates upskilling. Here’s what one of our apprentices, Simeon Essuman, had to say about his experiences as an apprentice:“Since starting my career (in October 2017) I have been supported to complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service, an in house Diploma in Estate Agency while currently undergoing an Assistant Team Leader Training program.”

Essuman is now a senior new business adviser and we are delighted with his progress.

Supporting charities

We proudly sponsor a total of 16 charities across the UK. They are: Teenage Cancer Trust, Colchester Night Shelter, Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Epilepsy Society, Launchpad, Daisy’s Dream, Age UK, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Frimley Health Charity, Naomi House Children’s Hospice, Southwark Foodbank and Amelia Trust Farm.

The Big Sleep Out New loyalty scheme

We recently launched a loyalty scheme in order to help us give back to the community. When a member of your community, like a staff member or parent, chooses to use a Leaders Romans Group service we will donate money in order to support your school.

Our branches have truly embraced charity work – here is our Yateley branch showing what a great job looks like supporting an Age UK campaign.
