MMK expands its range of metal products with high added value
P
JSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) shipped the first batch of rolled products
with new consumer properties. Improved quality characteristics of hot-rolled sheet metal are obtained through the use of a unique technology which cleans scale from the surface of the sheet. The emergence of new steel
products with unique quality properties was made possible by the implementation of a project by Kama-Trade Tatarstan to construct a Brandsteel Service Metalworking Centre (SMC) which has the capacity to produce 240 thousand tonnes per
year. This project was implemented with the active support and assistance of MMK. Magnitka is also the main partner of SMC, which will provide services for MMK in the further processing of Magnitogorsk metal. The plant is interested in improving the consumer properties of hot-rolled products and fulfilling the growing requirements of consumers from year to year on the surface quality (colour, appearance) of finished products. Now MMK has the opportunity to supply existing and potential customers (primarily automotive companies) with a new type of metal with high added value, which has no analogues in the Russian market.
The revolutionary technology
for processing thick sheet metal EPS - Eco Pickled Surface (eco- etching of surfaces) is used in the making of new products. This technology has no analogues in Russia and Europe. An alternative to EPS technology is the operation of hydrochloric or sulphur acid etching, traditionally used in metallurgical enterprises. Unlike acid etching, EPS is a mechanical process that uses a cornerstone steel shot and water with a corrosion inhibitor circulating in the system for reuse. EPS-process is environmentally
friendly, because it does not require the use of hazardous chemicals, as in conventional etching. This
Italian installation for Apollo
Olimpia 80 srl, the Italian manufacturer of tube mills, successfully installed three complete tube mills in India for the APL APOLLO company. The technology patented is “cage
forming for square and rectangular tubes” for carbon steel materials. The smallest can cover the section
range from 20x20 up to 60x60 mm, up to 4 mm max thickness. The medium line, can cover the
range form 30x30 up to 80x80 mm, up to 6 mm max thickness. The biggest, can cover the range
form 80x80 up to 200x200 mm and the max thickness 10 mm. All of these lines are fully
automatic and are a part of the complete range of products of Olimpia 80 manufacturing program. Others different installations are
recently finalized in Mexico, Chile and Romania for different sizes of carbon steel tube mills. Particularly a tube mill mod.
60/90 can produce hot & cold rolled carbon steel tubes having a yield strength of max. 1200 MPa and
an ultimate strength of max. 1600 MPa, in accordance of standard specification ASTM 513 has recently installed in Mexico. The mill covers a production range
from OD 12.7 mm up to OD 63.5 mm, WT 0.6 => 4.0mm, max. and speed up to 140 m/min. Mentioned tube mill is equipped with Automatic
cut-off machine by friction saw and cold saw (HSS & TCT). Thanks to the innovative gear box the passage from cold saw cutting process to friction saw is extremely rapid and fast in total safety execution without replace nothing except the kind of blade and select on operator desk control.

provides a higher surface quality when removing scale and there is no surface hardening and a guarantee of safety from corrosion for up to six months after cleaning without oiling (subject to storage conditions). This means that no solvents are required to remove the oil before painting. In fact, EPS creates a new surface through the removal of secondary scale. On this new surface there are no undesirable effects such as shells, rust or silicon strips and etchings, often found on etched and oil- coated materials More information: Dmitry Kuchumov tel.: +7 (499) 238-26-13 E-mail:

Raccortubi strengthening Russian trade
Raccortubi, Tecninox and Petrol Raccord have obtained EAC certification. Raccortubi and its production
mills, Petrol Raccord and Tecninox, have recently obtained the EAC certification (Eurasian Conformity) in compliance to CU TR (Custom Union Technical Regulations) 032/2013. This qualification is fundamental to trade with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan. “The EAC certification will
enable us to export and sell our products in those countries, proving their safety and quality” says Mr. Faust Ceraulo, Raccortubi’s Quality Manager. “This will let us take new business opportunities in such a dynamic and fast-growing market”.
