5 Dark bay stallion He is a son of Donnerhall that competed to the 4’ level in jumping before taking up the sport he was bred for. One German dressage clinician was flabbergasted that this horse (without initially knowing his pedigree) was not still in Europe and not competing as a Grand Prix dressage horse. That would likely be because he is built quite like his sire. Although not bred to the quality of mares his paternal half-siblings were, he has shown a propensity to improve LS placement in the foals from mares with less than ideal placement and to lighten forehands.

6 Don de la Mar This gelding (photographed at age 17) is from the Donnerhall sire line through De Niro, but not a direct son of the latter. He resembles Donnerhall in general, except that his LS is not quite perfect and his base of neck is lower. He has had a successful career as an international vaulting horse, but I believe he might also have done quite well in the hunter ring.

7 Dark Beluga This vaulting medalist from WEG 2018, a 2003 Hanoverian gelding, also descends from the Donnerhall sire line through De Niro. He differs slightly from the Donnerhall traits with a rear triangle that is not as pronounced for a shorter ilium, a stifle protrusion that is not quite as low and a point of shoulder that is not quite as high. And, the bottom of his pillar of support emerges just into his heel. He might also have done well in certain hunter classes.
Overall
Based on our sample horses as well as others I have seen, Donnerhall has definitely stamped himself in several areas: good LS, shorter ilium, lower stifle protrusion, lightness of the forehand. For the most part, the direct offspring have these traits, but the further back Donnerhall appears in any particular pedigrees, the less one can expect all of these traits to be evident. If one seeks a dressage prospect with Donnerhall in the lineage, it may be worth checking to see how a prospect compares using these points of conformation.
