HELPING YOUR PATIENTS LIVE WELL

The new Living Well service aims to increase patient and public knowledge and understanding of key healthy lifestyle and public health messages so that they are empowered to take actions, which will improve their health.

A schedule of five campaigns for 2019/2020 has been agreed by Health & Social Care board (HSCb) and Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland (CPNI), which is aligned with public health priorities identified by the Public Health Agency (PHA).

These are: • Care in the sun: June/July 2019 • Obesity: August/September 2019

• Stay well/flu: October/ November 2019

• AMR: January/February 2020 • Mental health: March/April 2020

Promotional material, such as posters and leaflets, will be distributed to pharmacies that have signed up to provide the service, and pharmacies will be asked to capture information on activity through the service for future evaluation.

Now that the schedule has been released, it’s time to get creative! Also, how can your pharmacy make a statement and stand out in order to become one of the lucky Living Well iPad winners?

All you have to do - after each campaign - is submit photos of your pharmacy Living Well displays and a good news story. Details on where to send your entries will follow with each campaign. A subgroup of representatives from CPNI, HSCb and PHA will then decide the lucky winner.

Alphega Pharmacy embraces innovation in Monaco

More than 1500 delegates, including 1200 pharmacists, flocked to Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum last month to attend the ninth Alphega Pharmacy European Convention.

Under the event’s theme of ‘Embracing innovation, empowering pharmacy’, a series of seminars and workshops reiterated how the latest innovations, whether technology or new ways of working, can empower independent pharmacists to help build customer trust and loyalty, and drive pharmacy growth.

‘The healthcare landscape is constantly evolving,’ said Ornella barra, Co-Chief Operating Officer for Walgreens boots Alliance, who addressed delegates at the two-day event. ‘Along with advances in technology and increased digitisation in this sector, patients and customers are more informed than ever before. They have higher expectations for greater access, convenience and

flexibility to manage their healthcare needs, and we must respond to this demand and improve the healthcare experience for all.

‘Alphega Pharmacy is a network of innovators, and so we must embrace change, in all its forms, to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve.’

Trade fair provides ideal retail opportunity

Pharmacy’s potential retail offering for Christmas is to go on display next month in Dublin.

The Cosmetic Association’s ‘must-see’ trade fair was formed over 30 years ago to offer the pharmacy sector a one-stop-shop for its Christmas trade. As the years went by, exhibitors took the opportunity of introducing new brands at the trade fair and this provided the opportunity for buyers to see a full stand of cosmetics, a display of perfumes, or a range of jewellery in one place on one day.

As the years have gone by, the event has grown in many ways. Exhibitors have increased in numbers and the variety of products available is beyond measure. This year promises to be better than ever before, with exciting new companies and lovely new brands being exhibited.

The event is scheduled for May 19, 20 and 21 in the Main Hall and Hall 3 in the RDS, Merrion Road, ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and the Cosmetic Association looks forward to meeting pharmacy contractors and their staff
