Spanning nearly a quarter of the Hexagon, this mega-region ticks every conceivable box
Size isn't everything, but try telling this to NOUVELLE- AQUITAINE, the largest super-region to emerge from
France's administrative rejig. It is made up of the behemoth former regions (in
terms of space, at least) of Aquitaine, Poitou-Charentes and Limousin, with the regional capital in Bordeaux. The list of its départements reads like a who's who of
great holiday destinations: Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Creuse, Deux-Sèvres, Dordogne, Gironde, Haute-Vienne, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne,Pyrénées- Atlantiques and Vienne. It is not surprising, then, that every imaginable landscape presents itself as a visitor option: a cluster of idyllic islands, mountains, lakes, forests and a sun-dappled coastline of sandy beaches along its western border.
