8 - AG-EXPO 2019

On Behalf of everyone at Farm Credit Canada, Welcome to the 2019 Agriculture Expo.

FCC is proud to once again be the presenting sponsor of the Ag Expo. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to connect with the industry partners that help to strengthen our community.

FCC is more than a financial lender, we are also an agriculture organization. We are committed to our customers and the industry. “At FCC the main focus is providing support to the agriculture industry,” says Steven Harris, Lethbridge District Director of FCC. “From primary producers to agri- food and agribusiness, we not only provide financial solutions but we are also deeply committed to supporting agriculture in Canada through free knowledge workshops and events, developing farm management software, and investing in rural communities through programs like the AgriSpirit Fund and Drive Away Hunger.”

A new area FCC is supporting involves mental health. FCC knows from decades of experience that ag producers and industry professionals are extremely resilient. Looking for new ways to improve the wellbeing of the industry, FCC is involved in several initiatives that support mental wellness and encourage people to seek out the resources to help one another. “Those in the agriculture industry face unique challenges when it comes to preserving their mental health. We have found there is a real need to start the conversation and fill the gaps around where to get help, how to help someone you see struggling and making sure everyone knows it’s okay to talk about it.” says Harris. “Mental health is being discussed more and more, and the agriculture industry needs that awareness as much as any other.”

A critical part of our national economy, agriculture is steeped in pride and hard work but it can also be stressful. Weather, commodity prices, isolation and family challenges are all stress factors for producers. FCC’s partnership with the Do More Agriculture Foundation has created mental health first aid training workshops in rural communities. Last November many of you received the Rooted in Strength booklet. It was delivered to every farm in Canada in hopes of giving people the tools they need to understand the importance of mental health. You can also find it at FCC.ca.

With more conversations and support systems, we hope to lift the stigma around mental health, ultimately creating healthier agriculture families across Canada. We truly are rooted in strength and FCC is honoured to be a part of this agriculture community.

Here’s to another great year at the Lethbridge Agriculture Expo. Enjoy the event!
