MARCH 31st will mark the end of the fourth year in business for Carol and Andy Wright at the Old Chequers pub in Friston. The husband and wife team are delighted with how the business has grown over the last four years and along with Lucy (the pub dog) they have become fixtures here in the heart of the village.

the business was always a lifestyle choice and a long- term plan. That has further been cemented as they have now built a house in the village, so they are certainly putting down roots here in the Suffolk countryside. This is great news, not just for Friston, but also the surrounding towns and villages. Our rural pubs are something that visitors travel to find, but not only do they aid the thriving tourism industry in Suffolk, they become the hub of the community, a place where residents and visitors alike can unwind, relax, enjoy the company of family and friends, and so much more.
The Old Chequers is very much at the heart of this village with members of various clubs and groups using the pub as a meeting place. Carol and Andy are always delighted to welcome groups including local rambling associations, book clubs, and Women’s Institute among many others.
The
team are more than happy to hear from any clubs that would like to use the pub as a meeting place so please get in touch.
Of course, the heart of any good pub is the bar and the welcome you receive from behind that bar. Both Carol and Andy are front of house and so you will see both proprietors serving. This is quite unusual, and it is most definitely a real strength as regular customer get to know both owners and enjoy their warm welcome and hospitality.
Being a free-house the bar is well-stocked with a selection of real ales, lager and cider on tap as well as an excellent wine list, spirits, tea and coffee and soft drinks. With good food and drink a given, you will feel at home here
with the huge wood-
burner not only kicking out plenty of warmth but also that warming glow and crackle the makes winter and spring in an English country pub such a joy!
The Old Chequers is a family friendly and dog friendly pub. Once the
weather warms up visitors can enjoy drinks in the rear courtyard and there is additional bench seating to the front of the pub.
